It is very long.  I have found a few good 7 or 8 card spreads that are more direct.  I like that better.  A significator takes away one card of the deck, so your readings might not be as accurate.  I use them sometimes though.  It's fun to experiment with new spreads.  ...

I keep my decks in a wooden box.  They are supposed to be wrapped in a black silk cloth, but I haven't yet bought any.

I think the whole idea is to keep your own energy on the cards, so doing a  reading for yourself shouldn't be a problem.  Also they say to sleep with them under your pillow or bed so the deck gets to know you.  It saves your energy and will give you better readings.
