Re: re:

Sahil, Just because a planet is in 8th house from its sign or MT does not mean it would not be able to help the house! I know there is a rule that says that planets should not be in 6,8,12 from their houses but it should not be applied too literally. What in the case where cancer is lagna and jupite...

Re: Mangalik

Swetha, In this thread some 8 pages long, I thought everything must have been already said but looks like a couple of things can still be added. Mangal dosh: Mars placed in 12th, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th houses from lagna gives rise to mangal dosha. Not moon, not sun, not venus, not darapada, not kar...

[color=blue]Dear friend, None of us should feel that we cannot speak or debate freely and by questioning some rigid minds with archaic and sometimes arcane thinking, that brickbats would necessarily ensue :-) On some forums run by religious organizations that may be the norm but I know at least one ...

Re: Jupter's Exaltation Sign?

Mr. Shetty, While appreciating your posting which is quite interesting, I must ask a few things -- If Parashara was so great and perfect, why did he leave it to the very mortals of kaliyuga whom he mocks in his chapter on ashtakavarga, to explain and elaborate on what he meant? Heck -- if I knew I w...

Re: Jupter's Exaltation Sign?

even if I am not an expert, Kissna, I like your style! :-) I have always treated exaltation-debilitation (180 degrees apart) as something akin to the lunar phases. Amavasya (Newmoon) is 180 degrees apart from Purnima (full moon) but again if you look at a cycle, it is not (explore that!). But genera...

Re: shad balas of planets

Bite the bullet, as the saying goes, invest in Brihat Parashara Hora shastra (English translation by GC sharma) and you will never have to ask these questions on the quality uncontrolled WWW and get fifteen different answers ;-) RR [quote="matmazel38"]In my chart, shad balas of planets are as follow...

Re: for anyone that have time to give an insight

Thanks! Look at it this way. If I had not asked, your name would have remained a secret! In astrology, the more one asks, the more serious it gets. The more the signs and planets reveal! RR [quote="Light2000"][quote="rohiniranjan"]This might sound a bit discordant and even pretentious to modern mind...

Re: for anyone that have time to give an insight

This might sound a bit discordant and even pretentious to modern minds but this is exactly why I discourage people from quickie-testing astrology and jyotish! It must be entered into seriously and with trust. It is not a machine that can be operated skilfully just because you have read the manual an...

Re: Newbie!

In a few words, a system of astrology practiced in India, presumably for thousands of years, originating way before the first written word got ummm written! Carried from generation to generation through the spoken word, the oral tradition as it is called. The thought structure is fairly complex and ...

Re: Atmakaraka

Tara atmakaraka (charakarakas) is the planet that has advanced the most in any given sign in your hs. The premise (though unstated in classics) is that one acquires experiences over lifetimes and this shows up as advances in the longitudes. Next it is important to see in which drekkana the atmakarak...

Re: re:

Parashari system is a misnomer. KP, Jaimini are all subsets of jyotish described by parashar! I have never been attracted towards lal kitab. KP is a variation on the Jyotish theme. It is fine but I would need to see more valid examples as opposed to just claims. In fact much of jyotish seems to be f...

start slow, don't move your arms too wildly, certainly not against the tide (or you will get tired too soon) :-) Try different ayanamshas in a few charts that have clearly distinct events such as marriage, death, births, accidents. Things that are often more destined. Note that you may have to keep ...
