If you can get fresh mint sprigs (not just the leaves, has to be on a stem) from a grocer near you, you can root those. Just pull off the lower leaves and stick the sprigs in a glass of water in a sunny windowsill where you can see them daily, and they will usually root pretty quickly.

Using mint for stomach upset as mentioned above is *really* effective for some.  I have some really nice English mint my mother gave me a cutting of that is now trying to take over half my side yard, and a small handful of those leaves in a mesh diffuser per pot of tea really helps settle queas...

Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) is also a good insect repellant, commonly used to repel fleas and ticks from pet bedding and such.  You can try it on mosquitos.  It has a spearmint-ish scent.  Make sure not to get it in your mouth and keep it away from pregnant women, it's an abortifasci...

Magickal Aromatherapy

I have noticed many of the threads in this forum lean more toward magickal uses of scents.  There are many who would argue that medical aromatherapy *is* magickal by nature, given that the process of deliberately applying herbal lore to heal the body is an endeavor of compassion and will, but b...

I would think it would depend upon the oil and amount.  When I go through a period of insomnia I will put a sleep aid blend in my diffuser in the bedroom, which is pretty small, and keep the door closed.  I also burn stick incense in my closed room and only occasionally have problems with ...

Lotus is my number one favorite scent in existence.  I purchased samples of oils extracted from the three colors of sacred lotus by White Lotus Aromatics a few years ago and they are amazing scents, each slightly different--the last link provided in aelis2004's starting post of this thread cont...

I love frankincense. It's a lovely warm mystical scent, especially if you find a good quality.  So far my favorite type has been one I obtained from Nature's Gift online store; they are expensive but they have very nice oils, and have carried a large variety of different frankincenses in past.

Sandalwood is a sedative oil that calms stress. I do not know whether this would be good for refreshing the mind at all unless what is causing the...er...defreshing is a state of tension.

What do you mean by "new resins"?

In addition to other oils mentioned already, jasmine (Jasminum officinale) and basil (Ocimum basilicum) are also good for energizing the mind and lifting fatigue and depression.  Another one that has been personally effective for me has been geranium (Pelargonium graveolens--another is P. odora...

I always use apricot kernel oil for oil-based perfumes, I've found that to absorb quickly and not distort the scent of the oils.  For perfumes where I am not worried about therapeutic value and just going for scent, I use Everclear. :)
