Are these four yogas (Gadaa, Sakata, Vihanga, Shrunghaataka) linked to placement in relation to lagna or to each other? For e.g, is Gadaa yoga formed when grahas are in 2 and 5?

Hala AAkruti Yoga

Post by vivekvshetty » Thu Apr 25, 2013 4:54 pm

Hala Yoga: plough.
All grahas when placed in 2nd, 6th and 10th from Lagna (All three Artha bhaavas should be occupied).
Or
All grahas when placed in 3rd, 7th and 11th from Lagna (all three Kaama Bhaavas should be occupied).
Or when
All Grahas placed in 4th, 8th and 12th from Lagna (all three Moksha Bhaavas should be occupied).
One born in Hala Yoga will be a Glutton, be miserable, emotional, subject to grief, agitated and very poor. One is forsaken by relatives and friends, is a servant and makes a living doing agricultural work or will also work as a messenger.

The deity associated with the plough in Satya Sanaatana mythology is Lord Balabhadra or BalaRaama the elder brother of Lord Shri Krishna.
Here we see the Sages have put the other trines into one group and the Dharma trines in one group. The contrasting results given in classical texts for the occupancy of Grahas in the Dharma Trikona on one hand and the other trikonas shows us the importance of the Dharma Trikona.
Hala - a plough which is used to make the land fit for sowing is a symbol for very down to earth profession. The results given are general and the results for different Trikonas will definitely be different. The result given in texts seems more applicable for the Artha Trikona and we are to infer the results of the other Trikonas taking clues form it. Like Second bhaava is for eating and the result ascribes gluttony, Vrishabha and Kanya have agricultural symbolism and 6th Bhaava is service or servitude.

Shringaataka (all Grahas are placed in the three trikonas of the Lagna i.e. all grahas occupy all three dharma Trkona Raashis) and Hala (all grahas placed in dharma or artha or kama trikonas) are the two yogas in the Naabhasa Yoga scheme in which the Trikonas are taken into consideration.

The Aashraya, Dala and the other Aakruti yogas are Kendra based yogas. The Sankhyaa yogas are different as there is no such conditions required for their formation.

Vajra Yoga: Diamond, Thunderbolt, a weapon (especially of Indra), Hard (as in tough).
Is formed if Benefics are placed in the 1st and 7th from Lagna and Malefics in the 4th and 10th.
The condition is that all four kendrs from Lagna should be occupied. Benefics should be in the 1st and the 7th whereas malefics should be in the 4th and 10th. Varahmihira, one of the foremost ancient authorities of Jyotish raises an important point. He says that Budha and Shukra can be with Surya as they never are too far from Surya but they can never be in 10th or 4th form Surya, so how can this yoga be formed? Many people have tried to overcome this problem by trying to guess what the ancient sages had in mind when describing this yoga. There is a viewpoint (in minority) that functional nature of Grahas has to be taken when judging this yoga. Others are of the opinion that the Bhaava Chakra and not the Raashi Chakra has to be taken into consideration for theNaabhasa yogas.
Our opinion is that benefics means natural benefics and same for malefics and the Raashi chakra has to be seen and not the Bhaava Chakra.
Result: one born in this yoga will have happiness in childhood as well as old age but will be troubled in the middle part of life. s/he will be valorous, fortunate but indolent, desire less or apathetic and luckless.
Yava yoga: Barley.
This is the vice versa yoga to the Vajra yoga. Here benefics should be placed in the 4th and 10th and malefics in the 1st and 7th.
Result: will observe religious rituals and follow rules of her/his religious affiliation. Will be fortunate in middle of her/his life with money and children, will be of a charitable disposition and will be firm and even mentally.
What is of interest in these two yogas is that the Sages have given timing based results. We will try to understand the concept given here with a diagram. We will use the North Indian diamond chart for ease of understanding.

Kamala Yoga

Post by vivekvshetty » Wed May 08, 2013 1:30 pm

Kamala Yoga : Kamala means a Lotus. Kamalaa is also a name of Laxmi the Goddess of wealth. Mala is dirt or sludge and ‘Ka’ is the Akshar for creation and hence kamala means born from dirty surroundings and still pristine.
All the four Kendra houses from Lagna should be occupied by Grahas.
Result: The native will be full of good virtue and very pure. Will have great wealth be equal to a King and will perform auspicious deeds and have a long life.

Here we see that all four Kendra Sthaanas from lagna should be occupied. But the previous two yogas are also having the same condition, except for the condition that the malefics and benefics are not together. Kamala Yoga requires the kendras to to occupied with a mixture of both malefics and benefics. The Yoga itself is a rarity. These three Yogas will also coincide with one of the Aashraya Yogas, as all Grahas will be in one of the three Guna signs, either all Grahas will be placed in Char Raashi or Sthira Raashi or Dwishbhaava  Raashis.

Vaapi Yoga

Post by vivekvshetty » Mon May 13, 2013 1:51 pm

Vaapi Yoga: Means a Pond.
All Grhas placed in bhaavas other than the Lagna kendras i.e. Grahas may be placed in 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12 Bhaava but not in 1, 4,7,10.
Result:Person born in this yoga will be capable of earning wealth. Will have a stable life by slowly accumulating wealth, will have happiness of children and be free from eye afflictions and be like a King.
Some authorities say that the native will be a miser and hide the wealth and not make a show of the riches. This is like the proverbial Tortoise, slow but steady.
You may have noticed that the preceding yoga is Kamala (lotus) and this Yoga is called the Pond yoga, the pond in which the lotus blooms.

Namaskaar Swapnil ji,
Good to hear from you.
The word used in the available BPHS is 'Nayana sukha samprahasta' which is translated by experts as freedom from eye afflictions. we cannot think of any specific reason for the same.

From Pundit Sanjay Rath ji’s article in ‘The Jyotish Digest’ vol. VIII issue 2. Article: Kendra.
Technically there are two types of Vaapi yoga- Phanaphara Vaapi and Apoklimaa Vaapi.
All Grahas occupying the four Phanaphara Bhaavas (2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th) is called Phanaphara Vaapi Yoga. This shows material wealth like money, business or other such like.
Whereas when all Grahas occupy the Apoklima Bhaavas (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th) the yoga is called Apoklima Vaapi Yoga. Here wealth means the wealth of knowledge.
In this way the two similar forming Vaapi Yogas will give two very different results.
Punditji goes on to add, that the pond can exist without the Lotus but the Lotus cannot exist without the pond. Thus Grahas in Lagna Kendras can indicate fame and success of high order but they also indicate many struggles in life to achieve them. Grahas in Phanaphara and Apoklima sustain life and support the struggle for survival and success promised in the Lagna kendras Bhaavas.

Dear Vivek ji

Would like to understand above with exaple chart. Since you have mentioned pandit ji's reference he may have explained with example chart for better understanding.

Namaskaar Swapnil ji,
Indeed Pundit ji did discuss with example charts, one was the Chart of U.S of A and this is a mundane chart for explaining Kamala Yoga. The other chart is of a politician for an European nation.
We propose to discuss charts after all the Yogas have been covered and explained. This is the best possible way as rarely do we get a perfect Nabhaasa Yoga in a chart and sometime we get overlapping Yogas.

The yogas which we will discuss now have Grahas in a series placed in the Bhaavas. The minimum Bhaavas in which all Grahas should occupy serially is four and this gives us the definition of Graha Maalikaa yoga which we have discussed in previous lessons. The Graha Maalikaa yoga is a yoga derived from these basic yogas.
The bhaava which initiates the yoga (the first Bhaava in which a Graha is placed) and the culminating Bhaava in which a graha is placed are very important Bhaavas and the horoscope is to a great extent dependent on these two Bhaavas to give results and many other important yogas are unable to function fully if a Graha Maalika yoga is present in the chart. Even the Paaka lagna loses its importance to a great extent if this yoga presents itself in the chart.
Some authorities hold the view that all grahas may or may not occupy the Bhaavas serially and there may be vacant Bhaavas also and still the yogas will be formed as Maharishi Paraashara has not explicitly stated of this condition.
In this category of Naabhasa yogas firstly the four Kendra form the initiating as well as the culminating Bhaavas.
Yupa Yoga: A sacrificial pillar. Any kind of pillar.
All four Bhaavas starting from the Lagna to the fourth Bhaava occupied by Grahas.
Result: One born in this yoga will be spiritually inclined and knowledgeable. Will be happily living life with spouse and children, will follow rules and rituals and will be distinguished.
Sara Yoga: An Arrow, any sharp pointed thing.
All four Bhaavs starting from the fourth to the Seventh occupied by Grahas.
Will be a maker of arrow heads, will be a warden of jails, will earn by hunting and be a meat eater, will be violently disposed and a sadist and a craftsman of poor calibre.
Shakti Yoga: A kind of weapon held by kartikeya (Son of Lord Shiva in Mythology), also means energy.
All the four Bhaavas starting from the seventh to the tenth should be occupied by Grahas.
Result: Person born with this yoga will be Poor, lazy, cruel but have a long life and will be an expert in war strategies.
Danda Yoga: A Staff also means punishment.
All four Bhaavas starting from the tenth to the first occupied by Grahas.
Result: Person born in this yoga will be bereft of children and spouse (may be living separately from them). Will have to serve low people. Will have to stay away from own people and will be miserable.

One thing you must have noticed as common in all the four yogas is that are the four things on which the yoga is named is straight rod like thing or a straight line.

Does Graha which initiates and conclude this yoga play significant role in altering the results as you said it is related to graha mallika yoga.
