Question about karmic numbers?

Hi

I thought that the way you find your karmic number was by seeing what numbers are missing from your name, I assumed this was how you do it, but I've recently started reading some things that say you find your karmic number by adding the consonants in your name and reducing them to a single digit. I'm confused about this because I thought that was how you find your personality number... anyone know anything about this?
