Is my Venus in 5th or 6th house?

Post by claire12 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:10 pm

I have Venus in Libra in the 5th house at 27 Degrees 16'45" and Saturn in Scorpio at 28 Degrees 51'50"

I read from two sources that if a planet falls within the final degrees of a house then it may take on qualities from the preceding or next house. Here is a quote I found online from myastrologybook.com :

"If Saturn is within 10° of the descendant (seventh house cusp), then it is conjunct the descendant and much of the foregoing interpretation starts to become weaker. If Saturn is in the sixth house AND within 4° or 5° of the descendant, then it is said to be on the "dark side" of the seventh house, and its influence will be felt in the seventh as well as in the sixth house. The closer a sixth house Saturn is to the descendant, the more it will be interpreted as though it were in the seventh house; when less than 3° from the descendant, a sixth house Saturn expresses itself primarily -- and eventually entirely -- in the seventh house."

So does the bolded part apply to me and my chart?

Curiously the website doesn't include the same blurb in its page on Venus in 5th house. My Venus is very close the 6th house, it seems. I've read descriptions of Venus in 6th house and I can't say it really applies to me. As Venus is well-placed in the 5th house I want to keep it that way.

Please someone who knows more about astrology shed some light on this for me! Thanks so much in advance!

I think you can read about both Venus in 5th and 6th houses, because both may apply to you since Venus is so close to the cusp.
I have a lot of planets on cusps myself, so I can often relate to both houses at the sides of the cusp. And it also depends on how exact the time of birth is, if you aren't 100% sure it would be safe to read both of the houses. And it also varies between different house systems.

Planets conj House cusp
“Ascendant at 15’ Libra and Jupiter 13’ Libra. That would place Jupiter in the 12th house, right? But many thoughtful astrologers would read this as Jupiter being conjunction with Ascendant, and end up reading it as bringing its action to bear in the first house, rather than in the 12th.
This same idea would apply for each and every house cusp. If the planet is IN THE SAME SIGN as the sign on the next house cusp, and close enough to be CONJUNCT WITH that next house cusp, the action of the planet will be directed into oncoming house”

Ptolemy says the influence of the house begins to be felt 5° before the actual cusp.

astro.com has a free 'personal portrait' interpretation of a natal chart in the free horoscope section, you simply put the cursor on a planet and it brings a pop up box to explain what it means to have a planet in that house and any other aspects it has to natal planets. plus a six month free transit report in 'short report' Robert Hand gives a valuable in depth explanation of transits here –

It is generally accepted that a planet within 5' of a house cusp going anti clockwise is considered to be more active in the next house along.

Your venus in 5th to me, it not conj 6th house cusp  :)
