The Necronomicon
Some people said that a crazy arabian wrote this book and if you read it... you will lose your mind too!

Based on fiction
This book is reported to be based on a report by Lovecraft and is suppsoed to be noexistence. Later encounters since Lovecraft (1920's) there appears to be a person called Simon who created a book called the Necronomicon somewhere around the 1960 or 70's and is based on the BC Sumerians or one of their earlier or later ancestors.
But then Myth is sometimes real or is it Maybe this one is for the X files and last but not least it is food for thought as to its origin.

The Necronomicon was written in Damascus in 730 A.D. by Abdul Alhazred.

The Necronomicon
The book exists - now, whether it was written by a mad arab in 730 Damascus or Lovejoy or Simon - well, now that is all debateable.
Is the book evil? No more than any other grimoire that attempts to summon fallen angels, spirits, daemons, etc.
Is it really a grimoire? sure - whether it was intended as a hoax or was written for fun and profit - the spells outlined COULD be capable of being used as a magical portal.
Remember any grimoire and any spell contained within a specific grimoire is only as good (evil) and only as viable as the person using it. The better the spellcaster the better the spell or the book of spells, the grimoire.

I have a copy of this book in soft back. I have been told time and time again to burry it, but I read or well tried to read it. You have to learn new languages, Sumerian and Akkadian, just to read it properly...
My book says it is edited by the man named Simon. But it was written by Lovecraft. I also thought that the "Mad Arab" was a made up person from Lovecraft...
There is a chapter on the Mad Arab and a first person look on a quest or something he supposedly did.
Peace and Love

Thanks for this GREAT LINK - I think it's a good starting point for understanding what this book is and perhaps its place in "history", legend, myth or....? - depending on your perspective.
Warmest,

Necronomicon
Well, knowing that Lovecraft supposedly invented the book from a world he created, I tend to believe it doesn't exist.

No problem.. I'm good at finding that which cannot be found. When I get through my pile of books, maybe I'll tackle the search of this one and its history. If I do, I'll post here...
