Hi, I am new here, and I hope it is ok that I put in my 2 cents. Although I absolutely love all types of music; I can tell you the one song that I have always loved. The one I played when I was lonely or needed a closeness to something. As soon as I heard this song for the first time I knew it word for word, verse by verse. I know that sound stupid, but this song, and great friends with a bottle of tequila,LOL got me through a divorce.
The song is called "Wildfire", and it's about a girl and her horse, and running free. Michael Murphey wrote the song.
I'm being long winded sorry. Thats the story of my one favorite song.

Kate Bush - 4 octave vocal range... she breaks all the rules. she wrote wuthering heights at the age of about 16, what a legend.
But... she's not exactly dance around with your friends music... she's a little too intricate for that
Also Yma Sumac, 1960's/70's Peruvian exotica singer, close to 5 octave herself, she mimics the sounds of birds and the forest, absolutely beautiful but again more operatic than poppy...
seriously... the world has some amazing artists out there and no one seems to know about them!

Being a part time karaoke singer, I'd say that some of Johnny Cash, Steve Miller band, Warren Zevon, Billy Joel and a few others are ok for me. These days I am mostly into ambient music. Mainly because I believe that ambient music has less lower energies than most vocal music for the majority. Lower energy as in fear, hate, greed, lust, anger and such. There are a few good, mostly past artists, like Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle whom I do like. So any vocal music that has a positive solution for all involved does sound good to me.
