New Sticky Topic: Members Pics or No Memebers Pictures?

Post by RoseRed » Sat Feb 07, 2009 1:49 pm

Okay, the question might seem a little vague, so let me explain.

I wanted to create a sticky topic where members of the forum might be able to post their pics of themselves (PG rated :)), so that other members could see the face to the name of who we are talking to. :smt008

Now I have a nagging feeling that maybe I shouldn't...the reason...it might be better to leave things as completely anonymous.
One often changes your view about someone when you actually see what they look like.
I don't know why we do that... but we do.
But then I think, well its up to the person, no one has too, so if ppl want to participate then they can and if they don't - well then they don't.

So I wanted to get your guys thoughts on the Pros and Cons of doing it.

Thanx!

I voted yes - as you say, it's up to the individual member if they want to post their pictures or not.

As it is, I can take a picture of myself and use it as my avatar...

So true Charlesman! You could def put your own pic as your avatar.
Thanx for getting back to this - I'm just a little curious why so many ppl have viewed this topic and all they need to do is put a Yes or a No.
But nope :)

And I really love your avatar!  :smt002

I wouldn't post my picture.  The internet is a very small place and identity theft is on the increase, the more you post about yourself then the more other people know about you and the more at risk you become.  I probably sound alarmist and thats not the intention however I do value my privacy and my identity even more.

I also don't mind not having a picture of people, I often have a picture of what I think you look like in my head after a few interactions.

I voted "yes" as well. usually Im curious to find out who's hiding behind an avatar or a username :) and I wouldn`t mind posting my pic either, I have already done so once, in a pic reading forum.

I think that if we were to see each other it would change our perceptions. We should just leave the person's physical appearance too our own imagination. It could just get in the way of the conversations. We are a visual species, and as such we are influenced by it.

That doesn't mean that I disagree with posting images of ourselves if we want to, I don't think it something that we should have to do.

I agree wolfshadow not compulsory but there again some of us would frighten the horses- well I would anyway. I keep frightening myself when I look in the mirror, if I could shave without looking at this old bloke who's sneaked up on me whilst I wasn't looking I's be happy.
