my driving rule is honesty.
But it's allow to think, so if honesty do more damage then benefit, then I will not use honesty.

So you should have a third option on your poll....that's why you did't get mine :)

Maybe:

"Only if honesty benefit the reciver"

The question is...who can judge....:)
but I myself feel that the reciver must gain something with me beeing honest.

If you think about the phrase "only if honesty benefit the reciver" then you take away personal gain.

There is lot of cases where I can say a "white lie are better then the truth"

Let say you are an exstrem jealous person. One day I saw your husband in talk with another woman. Later that day you ask me if I had seen your husband.
I know your jealosy...and I would say NO.  This benefit you more...because I haven't seen him dooing anything wrong, but your jelousy would destroy your day and his.

There is lot of other cases too......Say someone who are ill....staying in hospital...you know information that might kill her.....will you say it in order to be honest?

The main thing to be honest is, if it gives important information that benefit the person that get it!
With this I think on both bad and good information....if I know someone fool around with someone else and the wife ask me....I might have said it if I respect and know the wife are a good person.
