Karmic Readings: technical data

Post by morton tolson » Sun Jul 03, 2005 5:35 am

Some background information.

Finding the Karmic task of an individual is based upon the sign, mode and the decanate of the natal Sun. The decanates are the division of a sign into three ten degree segments. And since Swetha’s Sun is at 13 degrees of Leo, her natal Sun is in the second decanate. And what defines ‘Karma’ is the yearly transit of the Sun over the birth positions of all her natal planets. Clearly, these yearly contacts serve to ‘re-energize’ the original configuration of her chart.

Since there are only 36 decanates in the circle of the Zodiac, one might suppose there are only 36 Karmic tasks. But the configuration of the chart, and the Karma, changes hourly (with the house cusps), and daily with the planetary changes.

To illustrate this point, and to show what changes, I erected another chart – using the same month (August), same day (06), same time (1:45PM) and the same location (Madras, India). Only the year was changed, to 1875.

Note that the Sun of this unknown person is also at 13 degrees of Leo and in the ninth house: further, the Rising sign is the same – Sagittarius. So the Karmic importance of Jupiter remains the same, since the Sun is in Jupiter’s house (the ninth) and Jupiter, as ruler of the rising sign, still rules the chart. It is the other planets that mark and shape the changes in this individual’s Karma.

In a sense, then, the Karmic tasks of Swetha and this unknown woman are related in many ways, but the tools and challeges are quite different.

In 1876 the British government took over from the East India Company – and this began a period of strong social and political ferment. Uranus moves slowly and an entire generation of Indians were now demanding freedom and change -- radical change (since Leo wants to be King). On a personal level, our unknown woman would wish to expand her own social, cultural and personal awareness (Uranus in ninth house)and the conjunction of Uranus with the Sun can act quite powerfully.

This is especially true since her Venus and Mercury are both in the eighth house of personal transformation. And Mars, the ruler of the eighth house is strongly placed in Sagittarius AND in the first house of self.

But what paths would she have open to her, when the rule of Inda was divided between the British and the Caste system? Were women acting as political revolutionaries in those days? Or would this unknown woman seek to escape her old limitations by turning to religion?

We note, too, that Uranus is her most elevated planet – and would most strongly effect her personally. In Swetha’s chart, Saturn is the most elevated, and hence lends focus, discrimination and direction to Swetha’s personal life.

The really BIG transformations in Swetha’s life are represented by the current positions of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto; by sign these were traversing Scorpio, Sagittarius and Libra – and are now crossing Pisces, Aquarius and Sagittarius. This quadrant of the hemisphere represents a MILENIA change for all of humanity! Hence all of that talk about the beginning of the Aquarian Age!

Determing the Co-ruler of the Decanate

The traditional way of determining the coruler of a decanate is as follows:

Swetha’s Sun is in the second decanate. And since it is in Leo, the first decanate ruler is the ruler of the sign – or the Sun. The ruler of the second decanate (moving CCW) is in Sagittarius, or Jupiter. The ruler of the third decanate would be Aries, which is Mars.

p.s. I have nuow posted Swetha'a chart under Leo.
