How to prevent your Blog drowning in spam.

Post by Rhutobello » Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:06 pm

I am sorry to see many of our users Blogs are drowning in spam.

I will ask you all to put up restriction on who shall be allowed to post in your Blog.

This can be done from "My Blog CP"

3 and 4 line will have the option:

Blog Accessibility:
This will control the minimum requirements to view your Blog.

Reply Privileges:
This will control the minimum requirements to make replies to your entries.
Only you will ever be allowed to post entries in your Blog.

Put up restriction so they at least have to be  members....this will prevent a spam bot to take control of your work.

In the next section find:

Show and Enable Shoutbox:   and  mark disable.

Good luck....many good Blogs out there :)

Try to read first post.

Go Blog CP (up on heading ...right abow " yyyyy people have downloaded"

look for Blog Accessibility: ....put up Member or friend (if friend only those you allow will be able to see your blog)

look for Reply Privileges.....put up at least Member, this will prevent "spam bots" to take control of your blog...if you put up friends as those who can view your blog...put up friends as they who can rely.

I used to run a large board a while back and to stop the kiddie scripts and spambots we implented a code verifier.  I know it's a huge pain in the butt for some, I get annoyed with them myself, but it does help deter spambots since the code is random.

Just a suggestion. :)

Thanks for this! I was just wondering this right now as I clicked on the General Discussions forum because I'd this been at my blog and I have so much spam. I kept deleting it, only to find more.
So thank you.
