Festivals of India

Hi...

Today is 13th Jan 2008, and India especially North India is celebrating the festival of Lohri by lighting up bonfires and dancing around it to the beat of drums and cymbals.

We will follow this dance by a sumptous dinner... Enjoyyyyy...

On 15th of Jan we will be celebrating Makar Sankranti in India. The sky will be adorned by kites from morning to evening. It will be a wonderful sight. Anyone knows why we fly kites on Makar Sankranti????

Why the kites then? Is it to do with spirits flying free?  Please tell us :)

Wow, Gem..., for a 5 year old, you really hit the nail on its head. Kites do signify the flying spirits, they sinify our indomitable spirit in standing upto the elements and using the elements, in this case air, to stay afloat and soar.

26th January...

India's Republic Day will be celebrated with the President of France as the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade. He will be accompanied by his girl-friend/fiancee... Its not known whether she will be given a special seat at the function or will be sidelined with the other accompanying dignitaries of our honored guest.

Shiv Ratri will be celebrated by all Hindus on the 6th of March.
Fast from morning to midnight, have 4 darshans of Lord Shiva's Lingam and be eternally blessed.
