7.0 Earthquake in Haiti

Post by happyme » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:42 am

My heart goes out to the citizens currently residing in Haiti, as well as family members and friends, and citizens not currently living there.  Sending forth prayers on their behalf. We in jamaica felt the earthquake on a much milder scale, but all this does is reflect how serious the impact must have been on Haiti. A lot of their infrastructure is down and hundreds of people have been reported dead so far. Please give your support in everyway you can. I also encourage those who have family or friends there or are citizens themselves to share updates. Peace.

My Heart is in Haiti.

Post by Martinz » Fri Jan 15, 2010 6:52 pm

Yea, I have been following the news on the internet and watching BBC World.  I think "logistical nightmare" defines what is happening there.  Haiti is a whole new learning curve in dealing with disasters - there was hardly any infrastructure to start off with after the recent hurricanes.  Now it is totally overwhelming.

In one article I read, the reporter critisized President Obama for pledging a hundred million dollars when the US Treasury was on the verge of bankruptcy...  But, how much money did it cost to bail out wallstreet?  The days of polarising Socialism and Capitalism is over!  They have to work together!

Time to send your Love and your money to Haiti, people.  And let it make you feel good inside.

Watching the  Haiti sufferers and survivors on TV is really heart breaking. Now I could realize,  What is the depth of Hunger?  and how it becomes enemy to humanity. We all living in safer places should thank GOD every minute for keeping us safe. But at the same time, I really feel sad and I am not able to digest the cruel acts of God over Haiti people. Let us  all send our Love and Healing energies to Haiti people.

Prayers to the sufferers, and also to all of us. The gods bless all of us, both those who feel themselves lucky and those who do not feel so now.

The "We are the World" Effect...

Post by Martinz » Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:07 am

No matter how good we get in dealing with disasters,  the aid will never arrive fast enough!  That's the thing about disasters - in pragmatic terms, is that they are unpredictable!

I don't think God creates disasters to be horrible to the victims.  It's the "If God is so good, why does he make bad things happen?" argument again.
God unleashes disasters so his humans can learn and grow.  Disasters are also catalytic for effecting a paradigm shift towards global consciousness.

In Haiti, there is alot of learning going on to do with co-leadership and cooperation on a global level; compassion on a global level.  And when we feel that compassion for the people of Haiti, that is Gods compassion shining through.

Learning from Haiti, though, people need to realize that the first wave of aid to a disaster region where immediate medical supplies, water, food need to be parachuted in.  These supplies need to be all loaded waiting for the next disaster so that they can be flown out within 3 hours of the onset of a disaster.  Parachuting aid can avoid logistical bottle necks.

And maybe God feels that the world has been mostly ignoring the dirt poor Haitans for too long now and it is now time to send them 'energy'.

Much appreciation for the very wise words and powerful blessings being imparted in this thread. You made some excellent points Martinz, one thing I want your perspective on though because I am half half on it,  If you parachute the aid or have helicopters drop it, it is more certain the people get it quicker, rather than all this aid arriving at the ports and taking forever to reach to people. At the same time I worry about the parachuting of aid creating stampedes and also the stronger people getting to it, while more vulnerable (children and injured) not being strong enough to get to it, especially if they lost their family and don't have somebody stronger to compete for it on their behalf. I just wish there was an easier made solution to the logistical nightmare taking place. The fact is people are hungry and desperate, they are going to start looting and taking zinc from deserted buildings to make their own shelter I hate to hear of police and others shooting at them in the name of so called "law and order" it's about survival right now.

The Caribbean plates are really busy right now though. With the huge hit to Cayman Islands and Venezuela the other day, and most recent big hit in Haiti again of 6.1.  I don't know what's happening but I hope Jamaica is bracing itself. I also agree with Martinz about why these things are happening. I hate to hear talk about what they did to deserve it or because they are evil or blah blah.

What I fail to understand is that you people are meant to be sighted?

If God does something that agrees with your lives and you win, you call "An act of God",

Yet when something like this happens, you call it nature.

Yes...it is sad that something like this happens, yet easiing your conscious to show how much you all care, when you do not really care two hoots, is perhaps the same as showing your concerns about a death on Alpha Centuri.

I fail to see this, as  anything more than a great catastrophie. I believe that God and nature are one. I also believe in world karmic crises and feel that things happen for a reason. The people who are going to win hearts are those who try and win them like celebreties, as this thing pays dividends on how much they can donate.

Perhaps you aught to read all this animal behavour of gang looting and see the pictures in the press?

I am not saying that people aught to die, as I am saddened that something like this can happen. But I neither know or love anyone personally, so if that makes me selfish then at least I am trueful. It is rediculas how anyone can pretend to show this false affection. It is sad and that is all.

Of course you people should know and understand all this, but I don't think you want to listen to another person's point of view because you are made that way.

As all I seem to find, is that you delete and destroy what you do not want to know. I have already found one of my posts removed because this forum is not mature enough to understand that others have the right to their own opinion.

Rather than respect that, as I do with your opinions, you see me as an infiltrator, a troll and gopher. Yet your own savour was crucified for being a revolutionist.

You people have not changed.....you do the same on forums, as you are now RESPECTABLE.

So much why you lose, and continue losing but see it as nature.

when I was speculating on parachuting aid straight after a disaster hits, I was thinking in terms of "How can we do it better next time in circumstances similar to Haiti".  Yet every disaster is unigue and creates its own challenges in logistics.  The one constant is: no matter the circumstances the aid will never get there fast enough.  For it to get there fast enough, we need to know a week in advance when the disaster is going to happen.  And even if a pychic could predict a disaster, who is going to believe her?

Getting back to Haiti.  When I was speculating about sending in parachute aid, I was thinking like the first 36 hours after the disaster took place, about the same time as the first planes attempted to land.

When people got hungry, impatient and desperate and a little chaotic, that began to happen a few days after the earthquake hit - because the aid was stuck in a logistics jam.  But, if a bit of stuff: water, food and initial Medical supplies were parachuted in right at the start, that would reassure people that help was on the way, but still a few hours and days away.  Because the fact is: Most of the aid needs to land by plane or ship.  And even helicopters are going to be a few days away because they need to be carried by aircraft carrier.

Another thing we need to concider, is the manner in which the media reports the disaster.  Many reporters tend to focas on the problems and difficulties.  Like the looting, for example.  When we watch this on T.V., it creates the impression that, like, everybody is out looting and everybody is chaotic.  Kind of: "survival of the fittest".  For the 4000 escaped criminals and a few others, that might be true.  But, other Haitans are out there helping others; the young, the old and the infirm.  And, in order to help these others, they may need to loot a shop to get immediate supplies - because the aid hasn't quite come through yet.  You have a whole cross section of humanity behaving in both good and bad ways.

Eventually, the aid will get through and everybody will be supported in a variety of ways.  The Love is moving, baby!!

Another interesting angle to the Haitan disaster is Pat Robertson’s take on the situation.  You know Pat Robertson?  He's that right wing T.V. evangelist dude who thinks Haiti is being punished because they made a pact with the devil!  A lot of people found his opinion just a tiny bit insensitive and uncompasionate.  That's what Jesus-idolatry does to you, I guess.

Yo GeorgeK!

I can't understand what you are saying.  You say "you people".  What "you people" are you talking about.  I'm new on this forum, so I still don't know what type of people use this forum.

What I want to know is what sort of "you people" are you?

You sound like a 102 year old Gremlin from the planet "Rediculas".

Maybe people delete and destroy your posts because it sounds like gobble de gook - with a bad attitude!

I think you shall calm down.....you never know the truth....you never can know all the truth....even if you call yourself the biggest Psychic ever lived.

I assume it is this post you are refereeing to when you say we have deleted it.

Well the fact is:
You never posted it!

What you posted was just the tittle, but there was no way we could open it...so I removed it....but this you should know already....according to your tittle.

My advice is......don't let your own belief blind you.....other might have some truth too...even if it don't is the same truth as you.

To be honest, I agree with Pat Robinson, although I have never heard of him.

There are  alot of catrastophies like hurricanes happening in this part of the world, and I am not one of these people who believes in 'chance'

In the mystical-paranormal, there is no such thing as chance, because things happen for a reason.

I am not saying that I do not feel that what happened to Haiti is good...far from it.

If people became more atuned to the creator, these things will cease.
I believe that man makes his own destiny and if people behave in such aggressive ways...whatever their excuse, then people will die.

Anything against the principle laws for the survival of man (and woman) will lead to destruction.

I am sorry for Haiti, but I also feel that God works in mysterious ways.

Regards George
