This Rakshabandhan a third year student has designed a special gift for girls, the "Raksha Band', to help protect themselves against sexual assault. It was the Nirbhaya case two years ago that motivated Susant Patnaik to create the band.

"I wanted to use my engineering knowledge to design something which could help girls in such situations," he said. The wrist band has special micro cellular technology which will make a call to 100 after a button is pressed activating a speaker mode so the police can directly talk to the victim, he explained..

"Micro Heater technology is the other important feature in the band. If the attacker tries to grab the girl's hand, his hand will burn even if he is wearing gloves. A special alloy chip raisen the band's temperature to over 100 Degrees Celsius in a few seconds and keeps increasing. The special alloy keeps the band's lower portion." Patnaik said. More over the attacker cannot snatch the Band as it is fixed magnetically. The tool also has a super flashlight. "It's light is powerful enough to blind an attacker for a crucial few minutes." Patnaik added.

The band also has a siren, a micro solar charging system and micro high ampere batteries to keep it active for long.
