BEYOND mind--DEAD SILENCE ?

Post by Rohiniranjan » Tue Aug 09, 2016 7:04 pm

Generally on mystical/occult forums and domains discussants tend to use terminology such as mind, higher mind, meditative mind and whatever other labels they fancy! Assumptions when repeated endlessly and mixed with ?Devotional mindset? risk turning into statements of truth that is nonnegotiable, and often presented as "my experience--my reality!" Some would even begin quoting others including scriptures, Sages, their teachers and more often than not this gets in the way of an honest discussion.

Perhaps this*entity* that humans have labelled as mind is not something that is rigidly mapped such as a concrete domain but a flux that encompasses a perceptual continuum somewhat like the groove on a vinyl record while the point of awareness is the needle tracking the groove. This analogy removes the need for fancy and fanciful terms that introduce unnecessary complexity.

Thoughts, logical or imaginative, as well as intuitive [flashes, extrasensory etc.] can all be accommodated in this simpler analogy.

Mind is not a domain, or thing, but a manifestation of *activity*.

The so-called "still-mind" is the state of mind-less ness  :smt004

It can be useful but why explore the sky in its reflection in the pond, when looking up can give direct vision, in a mindful way...?  :smt002

Makes good sense.

Mystical-philosophical writers (of All times) have milked the concept of mind-super mind quite a lot and with several assumptions plugged-in as facts have made interesting frameworks. These have been repeated enough and impressional minds have been impressed. Naturally! Including many meditators dedicated and dabblers.

Mix the above with reincarnation, after-life and all concepts about soul, karma, religion etc and it all makes a rather catchy script. Easy to swallow but very hard to demonstrate. Without accepting myths, mythology, fables and fairy tales etc.

The brain is a complex organ-system which is responsible for perceptions, including imagery and essentially ones personal reality. It has been well-known to create or rather conjure-up this sense of reality and comes well-equipped with chemicals that heighten or allay physical pain as well as mental discomfort that plagues humanity in increasing degrees as society evolves.

Perhaps much of the paranormal (including spiritual realm) is a construct or projection of the brain...? Disturbing as the possibility may be to most of us occultists, mystics...!
