Dream of flying by flapping my hands

I have this reoccurring dream ever since I can remember. I dream that I can fly by waving with my hands (like a bird), but then when I try to show someone a start flapping my arms and I can barely lift my self a few inches. It feels like air turned into molasses or something thicker than air and also I feel very heavy.  What does it mean all this? it is really driving me nuts.
