Dreams are rarely predictions in the future.

in thuis case your mother had the dream and for lack of futher details about the dream this is only a vague insight.

Your mother could be feeling a detachment from you..
ie feeling your not as close a you used to be or your at a point she feels you drifting away from her..
she thinks its a future prediction maybe she see this as being the direction your relationship with her is taking..

perhaps she need your help with something..
reassure her that you will be there for her.. lend a hand whenever you can..

I Respectfully Disagree

I am of the pinion that dreams may not Always be predictive but I believe they can be at times. In this case though I don't think it is.

StormGirl is right The cutting off of  body part indicates loss of some kind.  That it might indicate that your mother is feeling the loss seems obvious. And that it is Your hand might indicate that you are what she is feeling the loss of.
You might ask your mom if there is anything ele about the dream that she can remember. The table maybe. Kitchen tale...coffee table???
