Usually a psychic does not need any tools, they may choose to use them but they are not necessary. A tarot reading uses tarot cards obviously and the cards can offer the information. A good psychic appears to almost lift the information from the air

Then there are the psychics that use spirit contact to prove life after death, and these can give mediumistic readings and contact the afterlife and world of the dead or spirits.
