The Sixth Sense

Post by eye_of_tiger » Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:22 pm

It was only a matter of convenience to call our spiritual abilities "the sixth sense". I believe this is because our physical body is thought to have five major senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell) and that calling them the sixth sense emphasises that they are both believed to be beyond and outside of these physical ones. Actually there are far more than five physical senses anyway, but the original name sixth sense tended to stick (and also made a good title for an exceptional movie in 1999 starring amongst many other's Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment).

While our physical body possesses five major senses (plus quite a few more not often mentioned), our spiritual body which co-exists with it while we are incarnated on Earth has many more of it's own. Some of these roughly correspond to the five major physical senses such psychic seeing (clairvoyance) or psychic hearing (clairaudience), but there are some that definitely have no remotely matching physical partner (intuition or inner knowing is one that immediately springs to mind).

While the physical senses are attuned to the physical world around us, our spiritual senses are attuned to the much higher frequencies of the non physical world which constantly surrounds and interpenetrates this one, but cannot be detected by the physical senses. Therefore when we function psychically we have temporarily tuned into our psychic world, and at the same time tuned out of the physical everyday one. Our fears of the unknown are an important part of our survival mechanism both as an individual and as a species. Unfortunately our society, conventional religion and especially B grade Hollywood movies have tended to add to the normal healthy fears we already have (such as a fear of falling from a great height) a fear of at any time being possessed by evil demonic beings from the pits of a fiery hell. Not only have we been taught by our society not to trust our own instincts and gut feelings, but we have also been indoctrinated to suspiciously fear them as being something intrinsically evil. Therefore it is not our fears that give rise to us being able to see things that our physical eyes cannot, but it is often our fears that tend to hold us back from using the spiritual senses our Creator has given us in order to help us to function effectively as both a spiritual and human being while on Earth. It is not in the life path of everyone to become aware of and use these non physical senses, so it must always be our own conscious decision to do so. It is important that if we do then we should use them for the purpose for which I feel they were designed - which is to help others. With these abilities necessarily comes a great burden of responsibility to use them for the common good of our fellow human beings (and all other living things).

Hoping this has helped,

Love, Light and Peace to you and your family,
