Joy Without A Cause

"Do you have joy without a cause,
Yea faith without a hope?"
From ‘The Ballad of The White Horse’,
Chesterton’s enquiring trope.

The Absolute is ‘The Causeless Cause’,
Of everything in manifestation,
Pure Awareness when in ‘pause’,
Cosmic energy whilst in agitation.

Consciousness, at rest and in motion,
Nondual presence existing in two states,
All appears and subsides in this ocean,
Movement which arises, abides and abates.

If we identify with the changeless,
Pure Awareness, constant conscious essence,
Then life loses its unpleasant strangeness,
Often full of joy and exuberance.

This joy has many facets, such as relief,
When the burdens of the illusory self fall.
The wonder of direct-seeing, without belief,
For self-concern ceases perception to pall.

Peace, for Awareness is always silent and still.
Enjoyment of life as an instrument of This,
Experiencing varied sensations that life fill.
Unfiltered, the world encountered ‘as it is’.

Compassion, for we are of the same essence,
Seeing all are one, no other, many or two.
Fearlessness, for angst is banished hence,
Nothing to hope for, or that we have to do.

A poem based on a chapter of 'The Happiness That Needs Nothing'.

I write (and read) these posts, based on my meditations and contemplations, as much for my own benefit as for that of 'others'. For this helps to keep me 'awake' in this illusory, and impermanent, world ... our perception of which is based purely on our physical, and mental, configuration.

Desire and 'The Dark Side'

About ‘desires’ there was an enquiry,
Evoking this spontaneous reply:
From The One they (all) must be,
Of which perspectives there are three.

Positively, as to be happy, the hope,
Neutrally, to be calm so we can cope,
Negatively, for mental suffering to avoid,
All achieved by identifying with The Void.

That is the Aware Nothingness,
Resting silent Consciousness.
As expressions and instruments of This,
To experience the world is our wish.

This needs body/mind in good shape,
No desire worldly life to escape.
Also, natural is the urge to beget,
So more ‘agents’ of This may be met.

Alas, when misidentified, out of touch,
As a separate object, in a world of such,
The foundation of our desires is obscured,
To suffering and angst we become inured.

Missing the natural happiness within,
Causing the external search to begin,
Seeking to acquire more and more,
Overlooking That which is at the core.

Leading to greed, fear and exploitation,
The classic ‘dog eat dog’ situation.
Overcome by correct identification:
Of Consciousness a fleeting emanation.
