Staying Awake by The Bodhisattva Vow

A correspondent recently complained,
That his mind was out of control,
Threatening the peace that he'd gained,
And of his awakening taking its toll.

Except for the rare ‘established few’,
With Pure Awareness ever identifying,
The mind can’t cope with nothing to do,
Resulting in nonsense multiplying.

It’s best to give it a constructive task,
Such as Bodhisattvas undertake,
So when in Awareness it does not bask,
Positive useful efforts it can make.

The Bodhisattva is one whose vow,
Is to be constantly reborn until,
All are awake in the ‘here and now’,
Helping others this goal to fulfil.

This gives the mind plenty of scope,
As this is a massive undertaking,
Requiring ‘skilful means’ to develop,
Aiding others in ‘small self’ forsaking.

For the personal ego is an illusion,
Debunked by becoming of Awareness aware,
Seeing objectification as a delusion,
For no separate being is found to be there.

So if we vow to help others this way,
This calms the mind by its occupation,
It also assists one awake to stay,
The ultimate win-win situation!
