The Direct Path

Some say the ‘Direct Path’ to realization,
Championed by Ramana, asking ‘Who Am I?”
Is the simplest way to true identification,
For identifying with body/mind it does decry.

The straightforward way to the summit,
Of the apparent ‘mountain of Awakening,’
To rigorous practices no need to submit,
Just to ask this simple question it’s taking.

When we deeply ask ‘Who am I?’
We find Radiant Nothingness,
If laying small self and ego by,
Revealing Pristine Awareness.

This Radiant Aware Nothingness,
Is Universal Consciousness at rest,
Of mind and body The Witness,
Of which they’re manifest instruments.

What seems to ground us on the mountain slope,
Is the ego, self interest and concern,
Negated by self-inquiry allowing us to cope,
And to the summit effortlessly return.

Here there’s an all encompassing view,
And always more available to be seen,
A ‘lightness of being’ shared by so few,
Unburdened by what might be or has been.

For beyond mind and body we realize,
Awareness in which thoughts/sensations appear,
Our essential essence, beyond all the lies,
In Which there’s no existential angst or fear.
