Practice Makes Perfect

A question was raised about the need
For practice, as the process of ‘letting go’
Can be accomplished by taking no heed,
Of the suffering or discomforts that ‘show’.

That’s by ‘stopping’, letting them
Dissolve naturally, as they will.
Thus defusing them ‘pro tem’,
Allowing them to cause no ill.

However, ‘stopping’ is hard to do,
When misidentified, for then they assume weight,
Seeming to say something about ‘you’,
So ‘letting go’ is hard, as they won’t easily abate.

Whereas in the realization that one is not
A separate object, but That which perceives
The thoughts and ‘feelings’ that one’s got,
That’s Awareness, then they can’t deceive.

For they only apply to the body/mind,
And not the constant conscious presence,
The subject at the core of humankind,
Our innermost, fundamental, vital essence.

With this ‘seeing’ they lose weight,
Making it easy to ‘stop’ and ‘let go’,
As we no longer them overrate,
Viewing them as just part of the ‘show’.

But to perfect with Awareness identifying,
Requires daily practice for old habits die hard,
And the mind will resume control, mystifying,
Unless with realization we do not them retard.

A poem based on a chapter of 'Freedom From Anxiety and Needless Suffering'.

I write (and read) these posts, based on my meditations and contemplations, as much for my own benefit as for that of 'others'. For this helps to keep me 'awake' in this illusory, and impermanent, world ... our perception of which is based purely on our physical, and mental, configuration.
