Suffering and Death

A reader of Nonduality Highlights on Facebook,
Suffering on death’s door after sixteen operations,
Was very grateful for being showed where to look,
Soothed by being pointed beyond misidentifications.

Were it not for such pointers he would have killed himself,
Due to much pain, exhaustion and over half a million in bills,
But by the power of lucid Awareness, beyond the small self,
Consuming the me-thought, letting go, he transcended his ills.

For five minutes in intensive care while his body was dead,
He underwent a near death experience,
Not seeing light, or feeling love, as to believe he’d been led,
He entered a vastness full of radiance.

A boundary-less Pure Pristine Awareness,
Within Which he was offered the choice,
Infused with infinite living Nothingness,
To stay or go back by a formless ‘voice’.

On deciding to return he was flooded with love and light,
Painfully squeezing back in a body that was much too small
For the infinitude he recognized that was his Self’s by right,
Extolling daily pointers to identifying as this ‘All in All’.

His experience tallies with The Tibetan Book of The Dead:
On expiration ‘a naked awareness will arise,
Radiant, empty without horizon or centre’ by it is said,
This ‘essence is brilliant emptiness’ is its surmise.

Although this is exciting other post death scenes may apply,
The Bhagavad-Gita indicates that it depends on your belief system,
With the object of your worship your experience will comply,
But we won’t know till we go, that’s beyond knowing and wisdom.

A new poem based on a chapter of 'Fundamental Questions'.

I write (and read) these posts, based on my meditations and contemplations, as much for my own benefit as for that of 'others'. For this helps to keep me 'awake' in this illusory, and impermanent, world ... our perception of which is based purely on our physical, and mental, configuration.
