The Myth About Awareness

Many think that for Awareness to be,
There must be objects that use it to see,
Other objects, so it’s a function of the organism,
Just falling into the category of materialism.

This is a limited form, a noticing by the mind,
As it focuses on some of the objects we ‘find’.
Beyond this is That in which images, thought and sensation
Arise and abide, ‘ere subsiding back into their destination.

This is Awareness, akin to a limitless screen,
On which all objects appear, or have been,
Where sense impressions and mind-activity are seen,
By the mind noticing just those on which it’s ‘keen’.

When we become of this Awareness aware,
Identifying with That we’re beyond all care,
For This is omnipresent, never rare,
Perceiving everything here and there.

Consciousness at rest, always still,
In which movements abide until,
Their energy is spent, and then
They return back into That again.

All manifestation is energy and thus in motion,
Arising from this eternal conscious ocean,
Awareness, of all these effortlessly aware,
Nondual beyond the subject/object pair.

For this is not a thing, more a limitless ‘field’,
Of which universes are but a fleeting ‘yield’,
A constant conscious perceiving presence,
The fundamental innermost vital essence.

A poem from 'Poetry From The Simplicity of Awakening' based on a chapter of 'The Simplicity of Awakening'.

I write (and read) these posts, based on my meditations and contemplations, as much for my own benefit as for that of 'others'. For this helps to keep me 'awake' in this illusory, and impermanent, world ... our perception of which is based purely on our physical, and mental, configuration.
