Adding further information to this, in Northern Tradition the number nine is the most powerful of numbers.  It is divisible by the number three three times, so ther fore the Rune Hagal is the most sacred rune in the Elder Futhark.  Again traditional speaking the blank rune did not come to pass in the Elder Futhark until much later and there are a number of runes which deal with the Wyrd such as Peorth so it is not needed.

Topic on the blank rune if you are interested.

Hi Wiseungirl

I suspect that numerology would provide interpretations of the numbers involved.  Also, one point worth making.  Some sources show Dagaz to come before Othila, some show it coming afterward.  I have seen translations of the Old Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem that show both variations.  I believe most sources have Dagaz as 24th, but thought it important to point this out.  I agree wholeheartedly with MoonGoddess about the blank rune.  No need for it.
