Runic Half Months

Post by MoonGoddess » Fri Mar 23, 2007 2:42 am

At the beginning of my Runic journey I had a teacher, who told me I was born on the Runic half month or there about of Jera.  I was born on the 13th of December at 1530 during day light savings so I guess that would make it 1630 Eastern Australian time.  And so I wish to share with you what I have discovered in my book by Nigel Pennick Rune magic.

Appendix 3:
Runic Half-Months pg 220

During the year, each Elder Futhark rune rules a half month.  These times of year are especially powerful for magic connected with that rune.  Below are the beginning dates of each runic half-month.  (Times are local apparent time, average to the nearest hour):

So Thorn would be my rune then.  I'm the 6th of august at 15:15.

My Second daughter though is the 13th of august at 13:26 and just misses the As rune and so is also under my Rune of Thor.

Have I done that right then?
After all that what does Thor stand for?  sorry I just dont know enough about Runes to know.

Thorn, or Thurisaz

Post by MoonGoddess » Fri Mar 23, 2007 11:02 am

Thorn is the third rune in the Elder Futhark it is primarily sacred to Thor.  It protects working passively, deterring attackers.  Magically it invokes the powers of resistance present in thorn trees, and the power of the earth giant known as Thurs or Mouldthurs, and can be used to channel defensive powers.  These are symbolised by the strength of Mjollnir (.. above o), the hammer of Thor.  This means it can resist everthing that threatens us.  Thor is also know as the God of lightening, so the rune Thorn can be used effectively  to significantly alter the course of events.  Its corresponding tree is the Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), The May Tree or Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), The Bramble (Rubus fruticosa) and the Oak (Quercus robur).  Thorn's herb is Houseleek (Sempervivum tectorum), when grown on the roof, this traditionally protects the house against lighting, Thor's weapon.  It's element is fire, and its polarity male.  In this aspect Thorn represents the wilful direction of the generative principle, the masculine creative energy in action.  Its sound is 'Th'.
(extract from Nigel Pennick's Rune Magic)

To me Thorn is a very powerful protective and deterrant of evil, as well as being a catalyst being able to change events.  Your second daughter is also born under the rune Thorn but may display traits of As the Rune of communication often known as the Mouth rune.  It is hard to say as I don't really know much about Runic astrology but I do know Runes so I hope that helped some.

Me, which is initial in runes, I find very that interressant. I did not know that one could make astrology with the runes.

Runic Astrology

You can even make Runic birth charts as well, but I don't know how to do this.  I mainly read them but am interested in anything to do with them.

A gift....

Post by Darkfire » Fri Jun 22, 2007 3:40 pm

I was born at 1:15 AM on Sept 21st. I would assume that makes Gifu my rune and if so that makes a lot of sense I am extremely tied to this rune in a major way. Our Midsummer ritual is ...well the prayer I wrote is : We gather tonight to celebrate the rite of midsummer, to honor the kindred and to see the world through the prism of life shining with all perspectives.  The prayer of sacrifice is about being granted the gift to see. The votive offering I made is in wood with black paint and over that is a big red X in the X is the word gift in elder. Below that in elder says A gift. One the other side it says for a gift. I bound the two runes for vision on each border in red then painted over them again in black. Below  I attached a small part of the Havamal to read before throwing it into the fire.  As I said I am extremely tied to Gifu.
Know how to cut them, Know how to read them Know how to stain them, Know how to prove them, Know how to evoke them, Know how to score them

Gifu is a wonderful rune to be born under as there is not negative aspect to it.  It is drawn with two Kenaz's one upside down next to and upright one.  It goes back into the traditional Norse belief of a gift should always be returned with another.

According to that table, I fall under the Rune of Man.  Born April 17 at 9:50.  I should read up on that particular rune.
