The Nadis

Post by aelis2004 » Mon Aug 01, 2005 2:17 pm

The Nadis is a network of energy channels present in our body. According to the Tantras there are fourteen principal channels, and among these, 3 are the main ones: the Ida, the Pingala and the Sushumna.

The Ida is the left channel, it starts in the first chakra. Its color is white, it's femminine in nature, it's cold and stands for the Moon. It represents the river Ganges.

The Pingala is the right channel, also starts in the first chakra. Its colour it' s red, it's masculine in nature, it's hot, it repersents the Sun. It's associated with the river Yamuna.

The Ida and the Pingala intertwine at chakra points.

The Sushumna is the central channel that starting in the first chakra connects vertically all the chakras, from the first chakra to the crown chakra. It represents the river Saraswati.

All three Nadis meet in the sixth chakra, Ajna, where they are called "Mukta Triveni". From there, the Ida continues to end in the left nostril and the Pingala ends in the right nostril. When Kundalini, the sleeping serpent, awakens, it rises and shoots up the chakras through the Sushumna.

Rosalyn Bruyere, in her book, "Wheels of Light" refers to the Caduceus, the medical symbold of two snakes intertwining. She says:
The Caduceus. This symbol of the medical profession first appered in antiquity as the staff of the legendary Egyptian high priest, Teuthy, who is alleged to have brought to Egypt the "divine knowledge" of sacred healing. The caduceus itself unmistakeably resembles the image of Ida and Pingali serpents whi "rise" to the top of the spine in the mystical experience of the kundalini awakening.
The staff itself around which the two serpents intertwine stands to symbolize the Sushumna.

Hi Aelis,

I would like to share what I know about the naadi's.

Ida, the left channel, according to my knowledge is of colour blue. It is side of your desire, emotions, femminine in nature, starts at the first center Mulaadhar. If you use too much of this side then the colour of this channel becomes black, and it is a cold channel which can fridge and person can go into depression. If person think too much about the past, cry all the time, or very emotional then left channel is weak. Cancer happenns because of this. In Sahaja Yoga, once you have the awakening of the Mother Kundalini, you can balance left channel by keeping candle in front of left hand or keeping right hand on mother earth and taking all the problems away through mother earth.

Pingala, the right channel is yellow in colour, becomes red when over used. Person who thinks too much, agressive, short tempered may have a hot right channel. Such person can be very restless. Diabetis, heart attack can happen because of this. In Sahaja yoga we can cool down right side by using ice pack on the liver, as liver provides the fat cells to brain which increases the thinking process and exausts liver. Keeping ice pack on liver or kepping left hand point towards sky, palm facing backwards through eather element. Again all this is possible once you awaken Mother Kundalini through Sahaja Yoga.

I'll write about it more latter as I am running late. Please check following link for Sahaja Yoga.
