No. It is a fiction imagined by linguists and the likes. The fact is that these experts have only opinions, no proofs. I devoted 12 years on comparative linguistics of Indo-European languages, and could not find a single proof in favour of 1000 BC or 1500 BC or 3000 BC. An impartial enquiry proves that the Vedic language is incomparably older than all other languages. For instance, the word bhrātar and its variants occur 33 times in Rgveda, and in only one instance we can connect it with worldly meaning 'brother' (in last mandala), but there too it may be connected to the Sun. In all other 32 instances, it means the bright Sun. All grammarians derived this word from the root bhrāsh whose variants are bhrāj and bhrāch, which means "to shine". Some people try to derive it from the root bhr, which means "to bear". The Sun shines, and bears everything. But a brother neither shines nor bears the sister. It is the father and later husband (bhartā, from bhr root) who bears.

I found similar problems in other important Vedic words. If we impose worldly meanings to understand the Vedas, we will destroy it altogether. When Vedic words were being formed from roots, worldy (laukika) meanings did not exist !  Concepts like "brother", or 'physical fire which is hot' were absent. Agni was derived from a root which meant 'to move tortuously', because Agni moved secretly to all worlds and carried oblations (havi) to gods. Hence, mankind did not exist when Vedic language was being formed. This is the consensus of all sanskrit scholars during past millenia.

Such conclusions are against the evolutionist mindset of modern man, who thinks that all other species evolve and later become extinct but Homo Sapiens can never digress towards extinction. Our ancestors disliked materialism, hence they are declared to be underdeveloped. Modern man is over 90% unconscious, yet thinks himself to be the pinnacle of evolution. Hypotheses are imposed upon facts. Under prevailing circumstances, it is futile to argue about the dating of Vedas.
