If your father met with an accident in the year 1998 and he is Makara Rasi, then certainly he would have not been undergoing Sade sathi then

In your father's horoscope, 8th lord is placed in the 2nd house and at the time of accident, your father was running Saturn Dasa Jupiter bhukthi . Though Saturn is yogakaraka for Taurus Ascendant, at the time of accident , Saturn appears to be transiting in the 8th house to Natal ascendant in retrograde , with 8th Lord transiting the over the Natal Ascendant. Hence it was not SAde sathi which was responsible for his accident but for other transit and dasa in operation.

A correction, Saturn was transiting in the 12th house to Natal ascendant  and transti  Jupiter was aspecting the Natal 12th lord Mars and aspected by the natal 12th lord

There are very many theories , how the SAde sathi effects an individual

The first theory is that in first transit, if the individual gets it before the age of  20 years, the evil effect is seen on the Parents.

The second transit normally is good, normally, in tamil it is said a Pongum Sani

The third Transit is normally bad and could cause even death

SAde sathi need not necessarily effect at the begining or end of its transit. It depends on the case to case basis.

saturn transit over signs owned by mars give devastating results. this is also same in case of cancer and leo as this are enemy houses. saturn transit over taraus and libra is neutral as venus its lord is  friend of saturn & saturn re yogakaraka planets for this signs.. saturn give good results in 3rd 6th nd th from moon nd lagna. transit over lagna makes one bed addicted.
