Astrology is the ancient science of interpreting what influence the movements of the planets, stars and other heavenly bodies may have on our lives. To learn more about its history, be sure to see the brief history of astrology.
Your astrologer uses a complex system of planetary charts to create the horoscopes for each of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Each sign has its own special attributes and influences. These are the Elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, the Qualities of Cardinal, Mutable, and Fixed, and the 12 Sectors or "Houses."
Learning about the tools your astrologer uses will help you discover more about yourself and give you a more detailed understanding of your future.

cardinal, mutable and fixed definitely give a description of the nature of the individual ... i don't think i would say potential though.
a cardinal nature is one that is directed and does the directing ... think of the N, S, E & W on a compass ... those are the cardinal points. so too can NE and SW be 'cardinal points' ... if a cardinal person needs to be focused in those directions.
a fixed nature is one that is the ball that is let loose at the top of the hill ... its going to roll down (unless someone makes a huge effort to modify and change that), and really is going to follow the path of least resistance ... gain, unless conscious decisions and determination decide to build a ramp or a burm around which the ball can roll and change direction.
a mutable nature is one that is like the ball on the board and there are holes you want to drop the ball in to put it in place ... you need to shift and maneuver the board so that the ball rolls where you want it too ... sometimes, if you are very good, you can get the ball to move from hole to hole ... othertimes, it kind of just goes where it goes.
the key thing to remember is that regardless of the nature of the planet's energy, you sometimes can control it, prepare for it, understand it, forecast it and use it.
