I have no clue when it comes to reading birth charts. I need to know of a website that helps me learn how to interpret birth charts.

There are loads of links i have given on this forum to further your studies, but in the meanwhile, i hope this helps..... :smt004

The Sun: Your self and future
From the Sun comes light, that which draws us into life. The Sun represents all the changes we have not yet taken, that part of use that we have not yet experienced but are headed toward. The Sun represents our identity, or self (values and belief systems) It also represents that which we will become: older people, authorities    those we look toward, or up to. Our essence, or future.   The Sun is important and "hot stuff."

The Moon: The support system
Here is information about the kind of environment we create around us, our emotional support system. What nurtures and feeds you emotionally.  The Moon rules your formative years, and can give an indication of what your mother was and indeed is like and how you were nurtured as an infant!

Mercury and Venus: The inner planets
These planets have more to do with our internal and personal life than with life outside us. These inner planets are located between the orbit of the Earth and the Sun.  We can therefore look to qualities that are inside us. Venus indicates how we appreciate and measure our experience, how we value life. Mercury tells us something about how our mind works, how we think and communicate

Mercury: The mind and communication
Mercury is the light in our eyes, the ever changing consciousness within us that moves from idea to idea. Thus Mercury has always represented thoughts, ideas, and the mental process in general. It governs not only ideas, but communications, too   by spoken by phone, letter, spoken, written, faxed etc.

Venus: Values and discrimination
Venus rules our values and sense of appreciation. When we appraise or appreciate something, whether that be another person or a new car, this is Venus    the sense of love and compassion we may feel. By the same token, this planet rules enjoyment too. Whether it be self appreciation or just plain old decadent self enjoyment by having a good time, this is Venus.  When we go shopping or are on a spending spree, it is Venus that allows us to appreciate and value all the good things in life.

The external planets: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
The major planets outside the Earth's orbit (external to us) are Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These are the planets of the outer world.... life as we find it outside of ourselves.
Mars tells us something about the drive and energy we have, Jupiter shows us how to best channel that energy, and Saturn decrees what sort of material or territory we will be passing through. Again: Saturn tells us about the territory we will be going through, Jupiter the way or path through it, and Mars what kind of push or drive we can count on to keep going.

Mars: Drive and emotions
Mars is the planet of emotion and inner motivation or drive. When we search for the meaning of something, life or whatever, it is Mars that urges us on, keeps us searching.  Mars also drives us against things, too and sends us into war and combat.  The urgency of Mars, the search for meaning, is identical to the need for union, yoga and marriage.  Mars is the planet of union, and marriage is the most common form of yoga.  When we have questions about the opposite sex, we are looking at the planet Mars.

Jupiter: Career and life path
Jupiter is the planet of success and simple survival, the way we have to solve the problems that confront us.  Thus Jupiter has to do with the way in which we can be successful, our vocation. The Hindu word for Jupiter is Guru. Jupiter is the guru and guide, the way we go through life, our life path or vocation.

Jupiter is the method each of us has for dealing with the laws of life. Jupiter is the light or path.  Jupiter provides us with our sense of direction, the path we are one, the way we handle life. It affects how we approach life's problems. It has always been an indicator of how successful we may be, our vocation in life.

Saturn: Responsibilities
The process of find out who we are (self discover) starts when we come to grips with whatever problems life presents to us and begin to get a handle on them. In other words, if we have not dealt with Saturn, or time (that is, if we do not have some control of time), there is little opportunity for other questions. Saturn rules the laws and limitations of this material world we all live in. Saturn indicates where we are bound to learn, the narrowness that makes our way felt, the walls that make homes possible.

Saturn holds us together as much as apart. Saturn is said to be the great teacher, the planet that keeps us from getting carried away in one direction or another. Although it always seeks to limit and determine any thought, work, or action, it also defines and clarifies. Saturn is called the prince of the material world.

THE OUTER PLANETS
In the previous sections, we have dealt with planets that we can see with our naked eyes. In general, thee planets refer to life as we know and live it and are the so called historical or classic planets. Beyond these are three planets that are not visible in the sky and which have cycles longer than the average human life span. Since they are beyond Saturn or time, astrologers call them the trans personal or transcendental planets.... the pla¬nets beyond the physical.  One of the ways astrologers learn something about our life beyond time (eternal life) is through these three outer planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Here we find information on how we discover ourselves (Uranus), how we understand and accept these discoveries (Neptune), and in time, how we depend and identify with them (Pluto).

Uranus: Break through’s and insights
Our responsibilities can tend to weigh us down, and we each have our particular ways of getting around (or breaking through) the mass of obstructions that tends to congeal around us. The planet that has to do with how we get beyond the difficulties and problems life presents us is Uranus.  Here is the way insights come to us, how we discover or come to know and understand ourselves. It has to do with finding new uses for old things, and it rules inventions and sudden insights into our life..... everything that is unusual, eccentric, and out of the ordinary.  It is the reverse of the status quo and is always unconventional and heretical. Uranus is, in many ways, the opposite or undoing of Saturn.

Neptune: Ideals and imagination
Even the most hard nosed of us have moments of real understanding, when things are seen as linked together and one piece. We stop getting the idea in little flashes and just get the whole thing. It dawns on us. We each have our own way of letting go, having communion, and (as the poet wrote) letting "the dewdrop slip into the shining sea."  These moments and this state of mind are, in fact, the source for all our imagination. There are many ways of seeing through the separateness in the world to the unity behind it.

Pluto: Inner change and growth
Pluto is the planet of profound change, death, re birth and total transformation..... starting deep within us and moving toward the surface. If often touches upon the most sensitive psychological areas inside us. Once touched, we have no choice but to change and grow. The most sensitive of experiences, the times of greatest vulnerability, are times of complete identification with an experience, a person, or a thing.  Perhaps this is only possible for most of us when we look into our child's eyes, and then only infrequently. Love is not the experience here, but total identification.  This is very sensitive stuff. To touch upon this material is to go through deep inner change and transformation .... inner alchemy.

House Activity and Emphasis

The twelve houses of the horoscope, particularly when they are occupied by a planet, provide a clue to areas of special activity and use. Here is an analysis of house activity based on planet emphasis:

First House: Appearance, approach
Has to do with how you appear or the way you come across, thus your appearance and personality. This is the essential stuff that bubbles up in you spontaneously.  It is what makes us each so personally different. This house rules our personal self and everything about you that draws a reaction from our surrounding or others.

Second House: Possessions, reactions, self worth, earning capacity
This house is concerned with how we respond to or manifest via our first house. This is how we hold or "have" things (possessions, material goods, money and earned income and the like. The second house always refers to how we secure ourselves, the kind of response we get from life and those around us.

Third House: Inquiries, communications, short trips, basic education, siblings, thoughts, ideas.
Explorations, investigations, and inquiry and research of all kinds. It also rules connections, communications, wires, tubes... anything that we can get through with our body, mind, voice, letters, what have you. It is here that we explore and search for the limits of our life, whatever we are working with at the moment. A very mental house, concerned with finding, peering, and all manner of questioning.

Fourth House: Home, family, security
The fourth is where we send down roots, find our limits, and generally secure ourselves. It is the end of any searching we might have done in the third house. Here we find or end our search, settle down, and manage to get in possession of the whole situation. This is our home and the base from which we can work, feel, and experience. This is the root of our experience, the core or thick of it.

Fifth House: Expression, creativity, children, lovers, private enterprise.
The fifth has to do with awareness, emotion (to move out) and expression (to press out).  Here there is always a growing sense of self confidence and even a pride of ownership, since we begin to recognise and own our experience. We know that we have had or are having an experience. All forms of expression and offspring are connected to this house .... children, animals, creative expres¬sion, and so on. A sense of direction and ownership takes hold at this point.

Sixth House: Responsibility, work (as in type of), co workers, health, daily routines.
The sixth has to do with salvaging and preserving what is good and healthy, in our experience. Here we separate the wheat from the chaff. We begin to care for ourselves and our experience and thus health, nutrition. The idea here is that we are able to analyze our experience and have thoughts about what is pure and what is not. The sixth house is an attempt to save the heart of an experience, one that already by that attempt is beginning to pass or not cohere.

Seventh House: Relationships, business and marriage. Other people (especially one to one relationships).
This is the house of partnerships, relationships, social life, and all that carries us beyond our personal self into an aware¬ness of other people, community and the like. This includes spiritual awakening and the discovery that we are more than just our personality. Here we begin to respond to our personal needs.

Eighth House: Transformation & re birth. Business savvy, elimination, sex, insurance/inheritances. Occult (life after death).
Traditionally the house of death, is concerned with getting rid of excess parts of ourselves that we see as no longer needing. Thus this house also covers initiation and any activities where we are transforming things. The no nonsense quality of the eighth house makes it good for business ventures since here we are stripping away the dross to reveal the truth or essence of the subject.

Ninth House: Religions, philosophy, the law, higher learning. Long distance travel.
This house covers long journeys and religion. Here is what remains of the purification that takes place in the eighth house..... the seed, or essence, of an entire cycle of experience. Essential ideas, philosophy, and all that is the very heart of things belong here.

Tenth House: Practical vision, vocation, career, social status.
The 10th house is a house of practical vision and clairvoyance, for here we can see clearly what is. Reputation and career are often connected to this house, since the areas where we can see with greatest clarity are those we most often can put to use to make a living.

In summary, this house is where we have real vision and can see to do and work. Planets transiting this house may provide moments of insight and clear seeing as well.

Eleventh House: Dreams, visions, community, friends, group activities. Large organisations, hopes and wishes.
The 11th has to do with putting our visions and dreams to work. We  have been on the mountain and had a vision (10th house). Here we take our vows never to forget what we have seen and to work hard to make these dreams into reality. Thus this house has always been connected with altruistic and humanitarian goals and trying to set them in motion. It is the house of friends and community, because when we are powered by a real insight or vision we share will all... irrespective of differences.

Twelfth House: Sacrifice, psychology, acceptance. Secrets, isolated places the unconscious.
The 12th house is about all that we go through in order to make our dreams into reality and manifest them in the world around us. It covers what we are willing to put up with, the sacrifices we will make in order to bring across what is really important. This is connected to prisons, institutions, betrayal, self un¬doing, and the like, because it is here that we must choose to take some possible abuse for the sake of the message we are carrying, or blow it all away with a negative reaction.

ASTROLOGY FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS
Q WHAT IS A NATAL CHART?
A A drawing/photograph, a snapshot in time (a blue print of  you): of the where exactly the planets in the skies were at the time and place you were born.
Everybody has ten planets in a natal chart, and there are twelve star signs which rule these ten planets! Each one of the ten planets could be in any one of the twelve star signs!
Q WHAT IS "AN ASCENDANT"   RISING SIGN?
A Represents the moment of birth: the starting point for the birthchart (where the 1st house begins and the 11 others follow on) and the  sign  it occupies when you were born. Reveals details of your outer personality and how you may sometimes mask what it underneath: your looks, ¬actions, outward behaviour and modifies your mental outlook.  It is a far more personal ¬indicator of character, then the more general Sun sign!   ¬Physical body and appearance (even health conditions), mode of expression. How you show yourself to others, your "public face."
Q HOW AND WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR A NATAL CHART TO BE CALCULATED?
A Using your Date of Birth details ie;   29.4.19??
Time of birth (if known)   2.55am
Place of birth (Town)         Leeds
Latitude  53.49.n
Longitude   1.33.w
If born in the summer months, 1hr will be deducted for B.S.T
* * * * * *
Once a chart has been mathematically calculated, the ten planets are then placed in a blank circle in their respective houses.

EACH OF THE TWELVE HOUSES HAVE VERY DIFFERENT MEANINGS!
Inside a 360' wheel (this equals an exact full circle), which is divided by 12 = 30' in each house.

THIS IS HOW EQUAL HOUSE SYSTEM OF ASTROLOGY DERIVED ITS NAME, AS EACH HOUSE IS OF EQUAL SIZE.

Also there is only 30' in each planetary sign. When a planet has reached 30' it changes signs into another and starts again from 0' in that sign. Same applies to the houses, when 30' is reached, it returns back and starts again from 0'degrees.
* * * * * *
Q WHAT IS AN "ASPECT GRID" AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
A The aspect grid is mathematically calculated from planet to
planet. Eg: A  Square = 90', An Opposition = 180',
A trine = 120' A sextile = 60' etc. The main function of these aspects is to assist in the interpretation of a natal chart. EACH ASPECT DESCRIBES, " A FACET OF YOUR PERSONALITY," (as we are all multi faceted personalities!)

THE "T R U T H" ABOUT ASTROLOGY

Astrology is humanity's oldest and most precise mindmap. It cannot, however, accurately predict events.   THE STARS' & THE PLANETS HOLD HALF THE ANSWERS: YOU HOLD THE REST! Choices you make within the astrological environment determines what actually happens to you.

We are ALL FREE PEOPLE WITH FREE WILL.  No rigid, fatalistic prediction can bind us. There is no astrological event so baleful that creativity, ¬intelligence, and honest self appraisal cannot turn it to ¬constructive uses   and there is no configuration so glorious that selfishness and laziness cannot sour it!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The purpose of modern predictive astrology is to help people make better choices, to clarify the nature of the psychological terrain through which they are passing, and to serve as their ally in the endless, unpredictable task of creating the future!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Astrology CAN be mind boggling in its accuracy, but it can never consistently predict who is going to walk through the doors of your home, work or family environment. It doesn't naturally speak the language of outward, concrete events.  The future that astrology foresees with such startling exactitude, doesn't always unfold in the world "out there."  It unfolds between your ears and in your heart!

Astrology cannot predict that you're going to wreck your car, win the Lottery or Grand National.  It cannot point out in advance the date of your marriage (although certain advantageous conditions CAN make romantic suggestions and overtones that would be fortuitous), your death, or the arrival of your new TV set.
That kind of astrological prophecy is ¬misleading, bogus and unreliable.

* * * * * * *  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
What modern predictive astrology can do is inform you in advance of the natural rhythms of your life   and moods   thereby helping you arrange your life (outward experiences) in the happiest, most harmonious and efficient manner!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *  * * * *

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Natal Chart" interpretation is personal to you and  absolutely unique to the time and place data you supplied!

I would like point out that Astrology alone cannot change/alter one's life, it is not a magic wand to cure all ills; but where it can help, and does have a significant effect, is in showing each of us that we are more in control of our Life Path and less victims of Destiny and we all have the POWER TO MAKE CHANGES within our lives to redirect ourselves in a way which is more in tune with the SYMBOLISM of the Birth Chart and the Planetary Trends. You are no exception!

Astrologers are not "Clairvoyants" and consulting one will be more advantageous if your would consider them akin to Doctors (privacy and confidentiality assured!) ie; give them your symptoms, tell them your problems and life circumstances.  They in return will offer alternatives. Advise you, when there will be a light at the end of a tunnel.  When a lucky break should be expected. Explain 'why' you are going through a trauma and what you should be learning from it!

A "Natal Chart" is a snap-shot or still picture, very much like a photograph, which an Astrologer can use as a blue-print to your character, qualities (good and bad) and life path/destiny. It is as individual and unique as a finger-print! Also a natal chart cannot distinguish, "class distinction" ie; a Prince/Princess or pauper!

Astrology is the study of Human Behaviour a form of psychology!

Q What makes you feel the way you do?
Q Why don't things always go your way?
Q Why do people do certain things? Why does it annoy or upset you when they do!
A Astrology will explain in common sense the "Life Cycles, Changes and Pain," we ALL go through to achieve GROWTH!

The purpose of the natal chart interpretation is to explain in great detail, by breaking down (compartmentalising) various facets; the strength's and weaknesses of your character.  What you may or may not have a penchant for regarding: career, ¬recreations, hobbies, work, family, health, and relationships.

Hi astrologer50! :) Thanks for ALL the information about how to read a birth chart! I had asked about how to read a birth chart in an old thread. I was wondering what all 12 houses represented and was fixing to post a question about them. Now, I don't have to. hehe I really appreciate your information and help. Thanks again, astrologer50! Can you tell me how to read a sidereal and draconic birth chart as well? Or is it the same as western astrology birth charts?

Well i've never even heard of Draconic, all western astrology is usually sidereal.

..............edited by moderator) will calculate for free, plus they have a forum, but unless you understand the terminology may feel bit lost.

...............edited by moderator) will explain what all the 10planets in the signs and houses mean plus lots more.

There is a teaching thread on this website, but its only one sided with a different astrologer cos i'm not allowed to post for some reason. Even though I am trained teacher in Adult Education, have written a astrology diploma and am guest lecturer onboard cruise ships with astrology.....

Hello again, astrologer50! :) What does "edited by moderator" mean? Did you post links and the moderator edited them out? If you want to give me the links again, just PM me the links. I'm fixing to PM you right now about Draconic astrology. You can also google "Draconic Astrology".
