Should I pursue this court case?

I am currently in the process of filing some legal papers regarding an attack that was done to me years ago. I would like to know if it would be wise for me to go a step further and take them to court since the person is very dangerous. It would be best if this person were in jail so they could not attack other people (he has attacked many) but I am not sure if it will be possible. Any help is appreciated very much.
