Six of Swords - Upright

Minor Arcana

You may go on a long journey, mostly probably by sea. This may be the calmer period after turbulent times. This is an important time in your life. Situation will improve. You will find the solutions to your problems.

This to me shows to me that the two people sailing in the boat are sailing into smoother waters. Things can only improve from now on. This could also indicate a trip overseas. Circumstance will improve.
Moving away from troubles.
A time of peace.

Metaphorically speaking - pushing the boat out and exploring other options or uncharted waters - a leaving of the comfort zone suggested in the Six of Cups. Almost "thinking outside the box" on how to solve a problem.

Land is also in sight :).

My own quote/lyric for this card in my (non-RW) deck is:

"Oh the weary cutters, and oh the weary seas
"Oh the weary cutters have taken my laddie from me
"I'll give the cutters a guinea, I'll give the cutters no more
"I'll give the cutters a guinea to steal my laddie ashore"

A trip in a boat (or in a plane flying over water).

I always find the swords in the boat unnatural and disturbing. Sailing away from trouble? Fresh start?

Six of Swords

when I look at the six of swords I feel a little unsettled, but when looking in the foreground, up ahead, there appears land, somewhere to put your feet on solid ground, a fresh start, the bad times are behind you, calm waters are now here.  I see a man, woman, and child sailing towards land, so my take on the card is that whatever family stresses were going on are now going to disappear, better times are in store, but you'll have to make them happen.

escaping from your troubles...in a reading where a person would ask what is in there best interest..to me it would suggest to move on...move on to a better life. What else could you do if nothing else is workign but move on?

6 or Swords

6 of Swords

To go or not to go?  - That is the question!

I think this card means that you have a CHOICE to run away - OR not-
from trouble or a problem...

...or plural...Should you run from troubles/problems?
You are tempted to run.

This card means being under mental stress because of problems.
Maybe a taking a trip away for a while might help. Maybe even moving
to another State or country to get away from a bad relationship.

Of course, REVERSED, would mean that you do NOT have a choice and that
you HAVE TO stay and face the problem/s or trouble/s....which could even
be legal in nature.

I see a need to leave , change, immediately, often this is a forced situation.

I know that everybody sees the cards differently and that is great!

I relate all the number "6" minor cards back to the Lovers 6 Major card...

...which is, to me, is making "choices," and when I look at my RWS 6 of Swords card...
...the lady doesn't look forced...just sad that she felt that she decided to leave.

...and that she "thought" [swords] that this was the best way to deal with
her problems...perhaps move to a new place and start anew away from
problematic people and trouble situations.

In fact, she has a hood over her head and you cannot see her face...
...suggesting to me that she is stealing off and trying not to get noticed.

The water is not even that rough and is actually smooth in front of
them...so no storm so that she would have to cover her head.

Another thing to think about...there are no chains or ropes binding her.
I believe she was free to go...

There is one thing that has always bothered me about this card, the fact
that she is taking the 6 of swords WITH HER! So she still is carrying the
pressure of the problems to where she is going. Guess that makes sense,
that she will still be stressed out until she trusts the new life she is going
to on the other side.

Just my thoughts...

calmness yet still a little uncertaininty hangs.  still pay attention cuz things could still be up and down, kind of out of control for a short period.  a night person.  coming to an end of a rough or crazy time, or journey.  the bumpy ride is coming to end soon.
