Gem's Tarot Class

Post by Gem » Sun Mar 18, 2007 2:24 pm

Well done to all of you for getting this far.  :smt041

We have discussed and delved deeper into the first seven of the Major Arcana, and of course we started our discussion with The Fool, card zero. Many Decks place the Fool as card 22, at the end of the journey but I think it is nice to use this card as our own beginning as to me it does a rather good job of representing us as we start on our quest for knowledge :)

Then we have gone through Card 1 The Magician with his powers and might, card 2 The High Priestess, calm and serene, card 3 The Empress, with her feminine power and charms, card 4 The Emperor full of masculine strength, card 5 The Heirophant, dedicated and wise, card 6 The Lovers, romantic and shy or passionate and bold? and card 7 The Chariot, harnessing power and travelling toward the light......

The first cards, the ones we have covered according to the Rider Waite deck, 1 through 7 are said to represent 'the body'. Our body. There are many similarities between them and many differences. The next seven represent 'The Mind' and the final seven 15-21 'The Spirit'.

Looking at the RW cards laid out like this is very interesting, many numerological powers can be seen. http://mysticboard.org/vi ... hp?t=24410

For instance if you add the number in the top row to the number in the bottom row and then divide by two you will get the number of the card in the middle.  So for instance Card 1 The Magician plus card 15 The Devil equals 16 divided by 2  equals card 8 Strength.

It is already becoming obvious why the Rider Waite or Universal Waite Tarot is used for lessons. As we all post pictures from other decks we can see that not every deck has the same way of portraying the messages, some are obvious and blunt, others very discrete and subtle.  It is all dependent on your personality and your intuition which cards you like and find easy and familiar and fun to read.

Hopefully by now you will all be feeling comfortable handling your cards and the few that we have covered in depth should be starting to give you feelings when you look at them. Remember.... this isn't about remembering the meanings, far from it lol... its about what you see when you look at the cards.  Each time you look at a specific card you may find that you see or notice different things, you may feel a different meaning coming through, go with it, you will be right. This is your instinct and sub-conscious mind passing messages over to your conscious mind.  Sometimes there might not be the perfect card with the perfect meaning and so out intuition draws the closest card and then allows us to see a slightly different take on it. So keep an open mind and don't dismiss ideas or images that pop into your head that seem slightly sideways thinking to the original interpretations.

I hope that everyone is enjoying discovering about each card. If anyone wants any help or ask any questions just let me know.
