Nick Trahan, a fifteen year boy in the small town of Chauvin,Louisiana, died 3 months ago from a duck hunting trip gone wrong. Nick was planning on going on a special duck hunt with his two friends Dustin Koening,15 and another friend who shall remain anomonyous. At 5:00 A.M Central Standard Time, the trio set out for their hunt in the anomonyous friend's Skiffer boat with a rowboat being pushed at the front of the Skiffer. The boats were not equipped with any lights and the teenagers had not been wearing life jackets. A Chinese crabber was checking his traps on the bayou side when the boys, speeding in their boat, crashed into the crabber's boat. Nick was ejected from his seat and broke his neck on the side of the rowboat. He was paralyzed as he fell into the muddy waters of the bayou. He drowned. Koening crushed his jaw on the dashboard of the Skiffer. The anomonyous friend was charged with neglegient homicide and was sent to prison. All three boys went to Lacache Middle School. Nick was the star football player and had an A- average his entire middle/junior high years. He was only one year away from experiencing his first high school year.
I,Shanell Sanders, was his class mate. We were schoolmates since 1999. We were close and as you can probably guess, it was very difficult to write this post. We were all devistated at his death and we all know he is in a better place. Please give hugs and love to his family and friends.
Thank you,
Shanell N. Sanders
Hugs for Nick's family and buds!! :)
