Will of god

Post by Jayashree Ravi » Tue Mar 08, 2016 12:19 am

அறிவோம் வித்தியாசம்
கடல் கடந்தும்
உன் மீது உண்டாகிய உவகை
இது 'தெய்வாதீனம்'
கடல் கடக்கும் வகை கிட்டியும்
தாய்மண்ணில் உன்னடி சேரும் பேருவகை
இது 'தெய்வமே செய்யும் ஆதீனம்'

Translation (approximate):
--------------------------------
Let us learn the difference
Even after crossing the mighty seas
That I retain my devotion in you
It is due to the 'Will of god'
Even after getting the chance to migrate abroad
To join your beloved feet in my homeland with great joy
It is due to the 'WILL of god'**

** The second WILL means something like the legal 'will' document prepared.

Explanation:
---------------

May not make sense to translate a 'WILL' this way, but that is why I said it is an approximate translation. In the Tamil version, the word 'deivadheenam' means 'will of god'. That is a composite word made of 'deivam + aadheenam' which individually mean "god + organization". Therefore in the Tamil version, I am trying to convey that while it may be the 'will of god' that someone does not lose devotion even after emigrating to foreign lands, it is akin to having god established in an 'organization' (right in the centre of heart) to refuse migrating abroad and serving god's feet in homeland.

Just to have the joy of word play, I translated that as 'will of god' and WILL of god.
