There are a few songs for me that do that, but here are three and one that most will know:

Sailor - HEM
Carry Me Home - HEM
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - George Harrison

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold you love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at you all
Still my guitar gently weeps

Oh, oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah

I look at you all see the play that you're staging
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all doing nothing but aging
Still my guitar gently weeps.

-George Harrison

I remember the first time I heard that George Harrison song (I bought the LP) and I played it to death, drove my parents mad with it. Good choice Sidewalk, I've got it on my computer and my wife is now sick of hearing it.

Interesting that you mention "Because" by Lennon and "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven. Yoko played "Moonlight Sonata" for John one day and he really liked it and wrote "Because"

And Leonard Cohen is top notch!

Awesome!

Do you still play the old vinyl? The sound is suppose to change with each play.

I think part of me likes this song too because of the story behind it. If I remember correctly, he decided he was going to write a song and let fate dictate what it would be about. His inspiration at the time had come from the I-Ching. So, he picked up a book and flipped to a page and found the words "Gently Weeps" and that became the basis for the lyrics. To me it's quite amazing, because he was allowing himself to essentially be free and look at what came as a result. To me it was beautiful.

For me tis Leonard Cohen... most of his songs are gr8 then there is Nick Cave both the softer more romantic stuff to some of his newer (love that raining piano) ... atm I am also loving Jesus Christ by brand new, surely god is a lover by jimmy little, Marlena on the wall by Suzanne Vega..... depends on my mood I suppose.
