Which Drinks Damage Your Teeth the Most?
Sports drinks and other beverages are on the losing end of a new study about dental erosion. It tracks tooth erosion from a wide variety of drinks including cola and noncola soft drinks, sports drinks, commercial lemonade, bottled iced tea, and black tea. The study found that noncola soft drinks, energy/sports drinks, and commercial lemonade "showed the most aggressive dissolution effect on dental enamel. The enamel damage caused by noncola and sports beverages was three to 11 times greater than cola-based drinks, with energy drinks and bottled lemonades causing the most harm to dental enamel. I drink a lot of soda, I have cut down but sometimes I get a day or 2 where I drink it a lot. For me it would have to be soda. Although I have seen in the dentist office that swishing soda while in your mouth can do serious damage. i don't do that, but I am trying really hard to stop the soda drinking completely.
