Hair care tips

Post by demo45151 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 8:08 am

Stress is one cause of hair loss. When you are stressed hair will start to fall out, it makes the hair strands weak, and break off at the root. Depending on the level of stress, this could result is drastic hair loss. This is one of the main causes of hair loss.

Exercise Finally, although exercise does absolutely nothing directly to grow hair, most holistic practitioners recommend it. Exercising can improve blood flow, the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body, and help the digestion of foods, all things that aid the health of hair follicles.

Massage
After applying shampoo, take time to gently massage your scalp with your fingertips for 30 seconds to a minute. You can also do a prewash massage with nurturing oils such as grapeseed oil, an antioxidant-rich argan oil or a soothing naturally antibacterial lavender oil. Work just a few drops of the oil into your scalp and slowly massage for a minute or two.

Try to clean them daily and wash with good shampoo. But don't wash daily with shampoo. Be careful to not break any hairs, and do not put it into tight ponytails or other hairdos that will break hair.

ALOPECIA AREATA (AA)

Post by eye_of_tiger » Fri Mar 20, 2015 11:40 pm

Stress is one cause of hair loss.
Another cause of hair loss is an autoimmune disease called ALOPECIA AREATA (AA) in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body, usually from the scalp, due to the body's failure to recognize "self" and destroys its own tissue (attacks the hair follicles) as if it were an invader.

I mention this as my sister in law has this condition, and has experienced several attacks of it during her 60 plus years. Stress by itself does not cause AA, but having AA can be stressful in itself and extra stress makes any condition (including AA) worse.

Fortunately the hair eventually grows back, usually without any treatment. AA is not contagious but it does have a strong genetic (inherited) component to it. Neither of my sister in law C's two sisters (one of them of course being my wife) has shown any sign of it so far, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that this continues.

Do not brush your hair while it is wet. Hair is the most prone to stretching and breaking while it is wet.
Some Other Tips:

- After you shampoo, apply conditioner & then gently comb out your hair with a wide tooth comb before your rinse out the conditioner. Run water through your hair gently - don't swirl it & twist it. Then gently gather sections to squeeze out the water.

- Use a super absorbent microfiber towel to press the remaining moisture in your hair after you get out of the shower. Spray on a leave in conditioner & comb out your hair again w/ a wide tooth comb if necessary. Start at the bottom & work your way upwards to remove any tangles.

- The microfiber towel is more absorbent than a conventional terry cloth towel so it will help your hair air dry faster.

- Only brush your hair while it is dry & use brushes w/ smooth tipped bristles that are widely spaced to avoid tearing your hair.

- Since you have such long hair - avoid styles that pull your hair tight. Use smooth hair elastics and barrettes.

- If you put your hair up, make sure to use enough pins to support the style so the weight of the bun, twisted braid, etc. doesn't pull on the roots.

- Section your hair while it is dry. Twist each section & use a small pair of scissors to trim the splits that stick out. Trimming off the splits will prevent them from continuing to split upwards.

For the ladies who are worried regarding constant hair loss, they should consult their doctor or a hair specialist.
