When I read this for the first time decades ago:

"Friends are siblings born to other mothers!"

It clinched IT for me!

Something that came to me in 1993 before I came upon the earlier quote!


FRIENDSHIP

A huge big pot of welcome
two ladles full of love
 one tablespoon of caring
  and one likewise of sharing.

A pinch or two of 'spice'
 two lumps of real happiness
   few drops of empathy;
     oodles of overflowing honesty.

Then stir into it well
the batter sweet and soft,
 with a hint or two of genuine concern.

Heat this mixture then lovingly
with true warmth straight from the heart
 keep it stirring, never letting it settle.
Never taking it for granted;

lest some of it gets claimed
 and consumed by the fire
  of passion, that burns threateningly close.

Keep spooning off the scum
of pride and frothing bitterness,
 of jealousy and vanity,
  mistrust and pettiness.

The potion of passion volatile
so easy to conjure,
 eyes, some heart, lot of lust
  yearning and some daring

Friendship though is so different
no wonder it's hard at first
those hours and hours of selfless caring

That is a beautifuil poem, full of meaning, to be read carefully, absorbed and then understood. There is one thing missing though. I do not know how to verse it but when in my college days I remember reading somewhere you can only be great and true friends after you have gone through differences and quarrels and even fights  and then come out of it stronger and more true  to each other.

dear ranjanna thanks for posting your friendship poem , i read it 3times, very nice.  I just want to share my views on friend and friendship thro my collections of poems on friendship , i love my friends more than my relatives .  let me share  them with u all.  I am trying myself to post  a good friendship poem of my own., but for the time being please read my choice.
