Holy Books

The word "Philosophy" is derived from the Ancient Greek - philosophía (compounded from phílos: friend, or lover and sophía: wisdom). To quote from WikiPedia, "Philosophy is the discipline concerned with the questions of what is the right way to live (ethics), what sorts of things ultimately exist and what are their essential natures (metaphysics), what is to count as genuine knowledge (epistemology), and what are the correct principles of reasoning (logic).

Do we need a holy book to follow in our religious path?

Because this topic is in "Philosophy" (which is cool!), "Do we also need a religious path?" A true mystic is not on a religious path. They and God just hang out together.

So true - there is a separation between philosophy and religion.  Sometimes they do walk together in a particular instance - sometimes apart.

Philosophy needs no book(s) to confirm (or deny) its existence in our thinking.

Philosophy is nothing but books that create more books. But at the sametime the whole thing gives us something to do :) . Something to do is good!

Oh and this :) : You can not separate "Philosophy" from "Religion" unless you can create a practical reality that can not be ignored :) ! "If you can't bringing Muhammad to the mountain, then bring the mountain to Muhammad." Moving a mountain :) is a practical reality that can not be ignored.

Because you can talk to spirits Spirit Talk, you are creating a reality that potentially can not be ignored. :)

Love you!

I would think so ( Virgo type, remember?) for learning, for reference.  It is a rare individual indeed that could possibly remember all of any given "written" religion.  I know I couldn't do it.  I can't even remember what I had for beakfast some days.

The limiting factor is when the book is made Holy.  Then no one wants to change or fix the errors (and every book has them) to agree with the more modern thoughts and ideas.  There is no flow in following a book with rational thought applied.

Well isn't it that the so called religious path exists because of the 'holy book', written by some bloke who wanted to control things that were happening around him/her.

The point is....there are the big 3 religions - Islam, Jewish, Christianity - they all have a book.  But many a thinking group has formed where other information is available and no one book contains the whole message.  In that way the religion can move in the flow of modern thought and keep growing in stature.

If you are total self dependent then not, but then you would always need something that can give you direction

Zoroastrianism was organized around the height of Greek civilization in ancient Iran, their scripture (Gathas) point to a life path that is seen as more a reiteration of a time and life path when people understood spirituality in relation to physical science much better, such as in the Golden Age--

But then there are things beyond a book that can offer that direction and aid on the journey.

Metaphysics, paranormal, psychic, they all exists to aid our journey.  They are natural and normal to a well lived, loved life without the religious book.  And religions can and are formed around them because they are natural and of nature.

Religion is subjective that allows for the use of a spiritualistic belief system within a chosen system as decided by the group of founders.  The true path of spiritualism is then corrupted through distorted beliefs while retaining the general belief that the society believes in.  Religion serves government, it is a hidden hand to keep society subjugated by creating loyalty, obedience, while keeping humanity into a prison or worse corralled into the pen as a food source.

To say the least religion is a construct of the system that is not working, we don't need it, we need to think out of the box, & understand that things that exist in the now that are subjective need to go.  Care not for religion, care for spirituality, & understand thy self.
