BUDDHIST WISDOM

The word "Philosophy" is derived from the Ancient Greek - philosophía (compounded from phílos: friend, or lover and sophía: wisdom). To quote from WikiPedia, "Philosophy is the discipline concerned with the questions of what is the right way to live (ethics), what sorts of things ultimately exist and what are their essential natures (metaphysics), what is to count as genuine knowledge (epistemology), and what are the correct principles of reasoning (logic).

If your mind becomes firm like a rock And no longer shakes In a world where everything is shaking, Your mind will be your greatest friend And suffering will not come your way.

- Theragatha

Evil is done by oneself by oneself is one defiled. Evil is left undone by oneself by oneself is one cleansed. Purity & impurity are one's own doing. No one purifies another. No one purifies one.

- Dhammapada, 12, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

An evil deed, when done, doesn't,like ready milk come out right away. It follows the fool, smoldering like a fire hidden in ashes.

- Dhammapada, 5, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu

Don't associate with bad friends. Don't associate with the low. Associate with admirable friends. Associate with the best.

- Dhammapada 78, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu

Neither from itself nor from another, Nor from both, Nor without a cause, Does anything whatever, anywhere arise.

- Nagarjuna, "Mulamadhyamaka-Karika"
