My "spiritual wake-up call" was when I learned I had bipolar disorder at 20. I had BIG plans for my life, and suddenly, they were not even put on "hold," they were ended. I took baby-steps by reading my Bible, and interacting with others on the psychiatric ward. I graduallly came to realize that I had become a much more compassionate person, with loads of empathy for anyone who wanted to share. So - a life-changing wake-up call turned me into someone I did not recognize - a better person, with a love for God, and His for me. When He closes a door, he ALWAYS opens a window; you just have to look for it.
