Mind and brain are the same...?

Post by Rohiniranjan » Thu Aug 09, 2018 10:32 pm

Brain is Newtonian/concrete which is based on structure, neurons, nucleii, anatomical, but mind is purely Quantal-multidimensional! It travels faster than light, forward and backward, it has no tangible-palpable existence but is unmistakably always present (even in the state of coma, as doctors are realizing very recently). Mind can be at many places simultaneously, and like the elusive electron whose presence and activity are unmistakably noticeable, no one can actually see it or predict its exact position!

What do you think...?

I believe both are different.

The mind and brain are different from each other.

The mind is not confined to our brain or body.

One current theory suggests that the brain acts much like a filter or reducing valve for the mind, only allowing information (either of a physical or non physical nature) which is relevant or useful to the person coming up with solutions to their current life challenges, to get through to their daily consciousness.

This filter arrangement (if the theory is proven to be correct) could potentially prevent our conscious minds from being constantly overloaded by irrelevant and useless information, which could interfere with our ability to focus upon the task at hand, and to be able to make logical and rational decisions.

mind provides intelligence to brain
Hi,

Welcoming you to our community.

There are still many scientists who believe that it is the other way around.

That is they believe that the mind including its intelligence, is generated and maintained by the brain.

This theory would mean that once the physical body and brain have stopped functioning at the time of physical death, the mind or consciousness would no longer exist (because there is no longer any functioning brain).

But there is a rapidly accumulating body of evidence coming from all over the planet that consciousness or intelligence survives the total dissolution of the physical body, and can function perfectly well either with or without any brain matter to support it.

Have a nice day,

Perhaps brain is the physical computer (required chips, wiring, etc etc) while the mind is the software operating system that brings the computer to life. What we learn throughout life including skills etc are the other software that we download and install to further utilize the operating system that we are born with. When the computer finally crashes at the end of its useful life, the operating system needs to find another new computer and then again and again the cycle repeats...!

Only up to a certain point is drawing an analogy between the mind/brain relationship and the relatively crude computers and software programmes which we have available to us today, both useful and informative to our increased understanding of what is really happening here. Beyond that point however, attempting to comprehend the sheer complexity of a biological system based purely upon a mechanical reductionist model of the world could not only potentially significantly slow down any progress which we are making towards developing a deeper understanding of the true nature of reality, but it is also very likely to lead us in unproductive and often completely wrong directions.

TRUE! But let us wait for critics to bring forth an analogy that is more sophisticated, and yet palatable and not hairy-fairy and full of *usual* mumbo-jumbo...? :smt002 :smt004

Rishi,

Thanks for the links.

The important point here is not only that our mind is not confined to our physical brain, but also that the mind is not a product of it.

Which also means that the mind can under certain conditions function entirely independently of the brain.

If we are to use the computer analogy described above, the brain serves as an intelligent and highly selective interface between mind (specifically consciousness) and physical matter.

Of course such theories are only now gradually being more widely accepted by the mainstream scientific establishment.

Most scientists will still use whatever extreme measures are felt necessary in order to defend the conventional view that once the physical brain is no longer functional (permanent and irreversible brain death has set in), consciousness simultaneously ceases to exist.

Dear Brian,

But when the brain dies, does the mind work?

Yes consciousness can under certain conditions operate outside of and independently of the brain (when we are still alive), and it also survives the death and total dissolution of the physical body (including the brain matter).

Consciousness surviving physical death (the soul leaving the body behind at the moment of death) has been accepted by many of the world's major religions for centuries, but a good proportion of the scientific establishment is yet to catch up.

There is a rapidly accumulating body of evidence mainly from OBEs, NDE's, death bed visitations, as well as the work of evidential mediums from all over the planet that we are spiritual non physical beings having a temporary, physical human experience.

When allowed for too long and permitted unfettered -- JUNK accumulates?

Like in the case of any computer??

Reboot always requires and demands that any forum that has gone through Kaya-kalpa must begin afresh...

Those at the *helm* might -- or perhaps not?

Out with the boring boring old and terminally-JADE-ed and reboot with the *NEW and FRESH*?
