Well, I can't sew, but it still sounds awesome to me. You two are so skilled! The most I can do (craftwise) is make Wunjo symbols in pancake batter, lol. Which hardly qualifies as crafty!MoonGoddess wrote:Sounds awesome, inspired me to sew a new bag for my runes.

Wunjo pancakes yummy, does that mean you would be eating harmony, Joy and creativity all at once? Must try this...lol but will have to endeavour to make them chocolate flavoured.

runes
I have made my own runes by using clay that you can bake in the oven. and I have also made runes by painting the symbols on the small rocks, glass and other objects that I have gathered in creek beds.I meditate on the object first to see what rune comes to mind before I paint the symbol on them or carve it into the clay before baking. i have never made a walking stick so i cant ofer any ideas there.

Making them
I have been considering making some runes out of clay and making a old fashioned fire Kilm, as fire is great for purification and will dry the clay so it won't be brittle. But have to put that on hold as I have a very curious 16 month old boy and another bubbie on the way and I don't have any place I could put a fire Kilm. Clay is so easy to work with I remember in High School I loved working with clay, must be the earth element that makes you feel great. Although I am fire, earth is still one of my favourites.

Hmmm, a kiln, huh? Sounds hot. But fun. I could never mold clay well, my pots always came out lumpy and stuff. But clay runes sound fun. My kid molds clay you can dry out in the oven (called Daz Clay, or something like that); a moulding knife and clay, heck, even I could do that! Probably better than painting glass and more earthy, too. Great idea!

I have never really thought about them as all my sets are of the same size. I guess it is like a pack of cards if one is bent then you will know what it is and come out with a biase view, thus must all runes be the same size so as to not have a biase reading. Good question, we are all learning and love things which get our minds thinking. I need to clear all the cobb webs out of my head.

I have read that ideally runes should be the same size and shape so you can't tell one apart from another by feel or when it is inverted (rune symbol face down). Which helps avoid involuntary picking of one rune over another. (If I know where Wunjo is, for example, it's easier to make it show up in a cast). Since I pick my runes with eyes shut, I can't see the difference, but the fingers can feel the difference. Having said all that, however, I think as long as there is general similarity between the various runes (as in the case of stones), then it should be okay. If they're all pretty rounded, than that should make it easier to not use one with a pointy end.
